Thanks for posting your photos Ross! You managed to take some nice shots in such limited time! Thanks for sending the camera to next person! We are really close to the end of this (long) journey
R10 posted on to Adelaide Tuesday 19th October 2010.
Took photos around Brooklyn on Hawkesbury River about 20km from my home and also on a day trip to Sydney with shots from a walk over the bridge and in Sydney.
Hi Peter,
I've done that climb up the bridge many years ago and the direction they are looking would likely be towards the Opera House, at least that is the arm we climbed. From that height you are close in height to the equivalent top of the Opera House so the view is spectacular. Its quite a walk, fairly physical. I will have to warm up the scanner and dig though the slides to find the appropriate image I am sure I would have taken.
"The Bridge shot is great. Makes me curious what all the people are watching from that unusual staircase."
They climb right to the top of the arch and have sensational views over Sydney Harbour. The Picasa Web shots show sort of what they see of the harbour. Their guide obviously is telling to look at the Opera House over there etc. At any one moment there could be maybe up to 10 groups wandering up and down the arches. See http://www.bridgeclimb.com/
"Thanks for your very fast stop Guy! And great set of photos! I'm curious if the tourists are somehow secured in case of slip?"
Thanks, it was a busy couple of days and much fun. Yes, they are all tethered to a safety line. No cameras, no loose items at all as they are walking over busy motor traffic far below.
Yes, insurance rules everything, and if some clown dropped their camera and it hit a car below.........
So nothing to carry, special suits to cover all, tethered to a safety line and only photos supplied by the guide.
That's why we go up the pylon instead for closer views of the city and any camera can be used. Also $9.50 (or $6.50 concession for old folks like me), compared to the "real" climb which is about $188 to $298 depending on time chosen http://www.bridgeclimb.com/The-Climbs/Pricing/ (Currently US dollar hovering around same value as Oz dollar).
just an update on the Around The World Ricoh R10 and all it accessories. The camera arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on 22nd Oct - thanks Guy, all recieved ok. I hope to be able to get out and get some images this weekend, we have been a bit slow due to colds here. Looking through the images, there is some awesome work here. Looking at the map I think this is as far south as the R10 goes, so after this stop off to Kris and then soon home to Pavel.
My sincerest apologies to all forum members for the delay with the R10, I have been fighting a flu which I battled for a couple of weeks and now another cold. I would have liked to make more of an effort but I feel its time the R10 moved on.
Having looked through the full size images using a Xnview on my PC I applaud you all for such excellent work. I am impressed.
Thank you all (especially Kris (last stop) and Pavel) for your patience with me.
are the first sculptures by andy goldsworthy? I was in Provence this summer and saw very similar entities... (sentinels he called them). will post some photos if you are interested..
END OF THE LINE - Durban - a very large natural harbour on the lower East Coast of Africa. Great experience . I have really enjoyed it. Weather was very bad though.
Yep, the journey is almost finished. Chris informed me that the camera should return to me around 22.12. Just on time before the Christmas! I can't believe it travels nearly 2 years! I will then write a summary, update the diary topic with latest entries and of course, post some photos of the actual camera state. And as promised, start the photo contest for brand new Ricoh camera.
Now what about new journey, this time started from the other part of the world?
And the circle is now complete! I'm happy to announce that the camera finally reached the initial/final destination! The camera spent over 21 months on the road and traveled around 64000km (as the crow fly distance). It was serviced 1 time (lens problem) and there was replaced lost charger. People took 3813 photos and the camera got some battle scars. But it still works as it was the first day. There are included some items I did not recognize (like a 4GB thumb drive or card reader).
Here are couple of photos from unpacking the camera and some battle scars details. The topsy turvy doll on the last picture has been sent by uKrris as a very surprising gift for Lucia from Chris's wife. It's very nice hand knitted doll and Lucia really loves it! Thank you and your wife Chris!
This journey was a great experience and I hope to repeat it soon! This time with another camera, probably started from another place and with slightly different rules to make the camera exchange a bit quicker. Next time we should finish it under/around the year
Thank you all who participated in this fun! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
