Ricoh Around the Globe - photos and details

Thanks for the chance of participating in this great experience! I miss the camera, yes, it's like seeing an old friend again ;-)

Count on me for the next one, whatever the camera might be.

Oh hahahaha I can't believe my packaging (white box with foam) made it all the way till the end! :D

Happy (belated) new year everyone!

Thanks to who ever marked the box with "Open this end"

Sure...sure...I did not forget about it ;) It's just that I was somewhat busy past weeks. I'm considering how to deal with the voting. It's crazy idea to start a poll from all 150 photos. So there are two possible ways...

1) every participant will select one "final contest" photo from his batch of 5 photos
2) I will make the final selection of one photo per participant

What do you think guys? First option is definitely more fair, but can be a bit slow, but who cares? ;) This whole adventure took nearly two years. Few days/weeks here or there does not really matter.

One more way with the flickr set? But it needs to be updated.

I wonder if Ricoh could provide some space and advertizing for world Ricoh users to vote? Or the Ring Cube for an exhibition?

If possible I'd like to see all images up for vote.

To include all 150 photos, maybe a system where everyone gets say 15 or 20 votes (more?) will enable enough of a spread of votes across all images and generate a trend for the best image.
Also if the voting period is long enough then more members who visit infrequently will jump in and vote.

Might help if they can be thumbnailed to view, is there perhaps a way to do this in Flickr?

i think it would be easier to vote, if everybody would choose one pic from the 5 (and maybe do the postprocessing, i think it's a part of creating a photo)
then everybody could vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place (3 points for 1st place, 2 for second, 1 for third)

if we need some webspace for that, probably i can help.

what do you think? :)

Although I tend to think that participants should be allowed to pick 2 photos from their set of five, to make things easier, Pavel's option (1) is a better idea.

Thank you again, Pavel. :)

Re: Ricoh Around the Globe - aftermath...

Perhaps, I should add this from my 2009 summary letter that I sent to relatives and friends:

After we had received two large, unexpected parcels with electronics for Astrid's [my wife] father (caused by transposed digits – it was not the first time that we encountered this issue...), an unexpected parcel from Holland arrived. When I opened it, Astrid covered her ears, fearing an explosion. Out came a Ricoh R10 camera! Then I recollected that I had applied for participating in the "Ricoh Around the Globe" campaign. I quickly took more than 450 photos – only five of these should be left on the camera’s storage card [now only two will enter the competition]. Unfortunately, the lens was defective. After having exchanged several e-mails, I sent the R10 to repair, too, instead of to Italy.

Perhaps, we should create an R10-around-the globe diary on this site (there is one on paper, but it's a little long...).

Maybe a stupid question  , but is the R10 adventure over?

Hi Genster,

This is best summed up by saying the travels of the R10 have finished, the R10 has returned to Pavel - just have a look at the earlier posts in this thread, but the adventure not quite over as we have to vote on the images taken - I am sure all members will get a vote so please have go when the voting goes up.

Not stupid question at all. The R10 route is done. The "only" remaining thing is a photo contest. Most unfortunately, I can't find time to put the things together, which is a real shame 4 months after the camera arrival. As you probably noticed, I'm not very active at forum in these days. Too many things happened since the camera arrival and some of them still keep me busy. I will try to finish this route as soon as possible.

Thanks Tim and Pavel.
It's too bad I did not discovered the Ricoh Forum earlier :(
I am waiting calmly on the photo contest :)
