This image has a little background that I thought I should share. In Singapore (where this is shot), there was a story sometime in 2011/12 where a soldier (conscripted) was spotted getting his domestic helper to carry his full-pack while he was texting/walking the roads. The strong reactions from the public was that we (citizens) misuse our helpers, and that our soldiers are 'weak', both mentally and physically. Well there you have it. its all wrong. What really happens is that our society is too dependent and reliant on others to do our work.

Its been some time Ricoh Forum!

I just spent 2 weeks in Germany, Austria & Switzerland, packing with me my 35mm and 6x7 film camera, and of course, the powerful GRD4!
I didnt leave (home) without the GRD, no Sir! People say its 'just a point and shoot' camera, what can it do?
Oh well, they dont know what they are missing!

Some shots from the trip (Black & White) shots first, before I compile the technicolors as a set together with the film.

All shot from GRD4.

Thank you Don (Streetshooter) for your compliment, this certainly spurs me on to shoot better :)
For now, lets brighten things up with some colour from the GRD4.

I am a new GRD4 owner as I bought my first copy 3 days ago :)
It is an intuitive camera, and I have yet to get the hang of it in tweaking the B&W to the settings I want. Its more difficult than I thought to use a Point & Shoot :)

Anyway, I'd like for this thread to showcase shots from around the world using a GRD. Any GRD!

Please feel free to add in your shots to this thread :)

Hi and congratulations on the GRD IV.
This whole site is dedicated to Ricoh and GRD images.
I would not say the GRD is a "Point & Shoot", more that its a fixed lens professional camera that has a Point & Shoot mode.

A few nice grabs, I like #1

Tim, could you show me the Point & Shoot mode. My wife would love to use my GRD4 but thinks it's too difficult.
I'm not being silly but serious. I never found that mode.
Don

Don - serious?

The "Little green camera" on the dial was put there so you could give the camera to a waiter and they could just use it like a point'n'shoot for a "party shot", get it right with no further knowledge necessary and a brilliant shot each time!

And of course when you get the camera back back you just turn the dial back to your favourite setting and none of your setup is changed.

Nobody could say that Ricoh does not cater for everything.

Tom

Benji, I am enjoying your series but #103? Looks hideous and probably a good example of how hi-res b&w should not be used. Or was that your intent?

Tom

Hi Tom
Thanks for your compliment :).
Haha, I guess you mean how the details of his face appears through the image?
I actually walked up to him straight on and snapped this with the 'Snap Mode'. I think this is straight out of the camera, or with minor tweaks in LR3.
I kind of like the 'in your face' punch this image has, unless you mean the image has technicalities in poor taste and the compostion could be improved?

If you have been researching on the GRD4, and wondering if you should take the plunge into this simple system, I'd say get off the computer and into the shop!
