NEW TO RICOH SOON

G'Day from WA

My name is Taff and since the Pentax K20D was realesed I have shot with a Pentax (maybe 2 years)
Well the time came when I found that all the lenses and large body was too much to carry around
and I found myself not using it as much as i once did.
I work away in the Pilbara and needed a more compact camera system to take with me, without sacrificing
image quality, and considering the amount of dust in the viewfinder and on my sensor, I decided the Ricoh
GXR with the A12 module was perfect for my needs, especially due to the fact that my favourite lens
was 50mm.
I have read as many reviews on the GXR as I can stomach and can only seem to find the only drawback on
owning this little beauty is the sometimes slow focus (well coming from pentax I'm used to that, actually the K20D
hunts more than Bear Grylls). So, after much pondering and great consideration I decided that practicality, Image resolution
and pure sexiness of the Ricoh won over the "current" AF issue.
My Pentax gear is at the store being evaluated as a trade so I may purchase the Ricoh. So if all goes as it should I will be a proud
owner of the RICOH GXR with A12 Module by Monday.
I apologise for the long winded introduction to your forum but find it is often better to tell a stroy that to just say HI!!!
So with all the gusto behind me.

Hi!!!

Welcome Taff,

Initially I thought that WA was Washington State but the G'Day didn't match. A short search on Pilbara gave it away (West Australia). I also see now why you're worried about the amount of dust.

I'd like to hear your impressions of the GXR.

Regards Remko

Hi Taff and welcome on the board! GXR has many quirks (as any other camera), but I'm sure you will soon realize its strengths and you will love it. One of the best things about Ricoh cameras (mainly GRD and newly also GXR) is the constant supply of new features provided by firmware updates. There is no other manufacturer in the industry who does that (not in the same extent). Current number of lens modules is somewhat limited, but since Ricoh already recycled all their non-GXR cameras, we may expect some new interesting modules. Don't forget to post some photos! ;)

G'day Taff & welcome to the forum. My brother works up in the Pilbara occasionally & that dust never comes out.
Hope to see many photographs from that very beautifull part of the country.

Thanks Guys for all your comments, I am certainly looking forward to arrival of the GXR.
I am also looking forward to seeing what if any changes are seen in my photo's using a
different camera altogether and sharing those with you.
