M mount lenses compatibility list

Ricoh released the list of so far tested lenses. The list will be actualized with additional lenses so it's a good idea to check it from time to time.

Tom Caldwell's comment regarding the SLR lenses:
slr design lenses - little or no rear protrusion on appropriate adapter, these lenses would all be subject to diameter, length and weight (on mount) restrictions ie: common sense
Canon FD Mount - all lenses should be no problem
Pentax PK Mount - all lenses should be no problem
M42 Mount - all lenses should be no problem
Feel free to add your tested lenses under this post. I will then actualize both lists.

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Thanks a lot!

the second last lens is wrong in spelling - it's a typo and should read "Summitar"

Cheers Bernd

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Thanks Bernd! It's fixed here and I will also inform Ricoh folks.

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Hi Pavel,

with the hype about the M module a very healthy but forgotten part of camera hardware should be taken into account:

The Leica R user. R for Reflex the name of the SLRs with it's absolutely top-notch lineup of lenses.
After Leica introduced the digital M8 and the stop of the production of the so called: DMR for Leica R8 and 9 (DMR= digital back mounted instead of the backdoor with film pressure plate), these users with huge assortments of lenses are left in the rain by Leica. At first during the last Photokina it was promised to launch a R10 but one year later, "Sorry folks, but Nikon and Canon are way too far ahead, we can't compete."

Ricoh should test with an R to M adaptor the usability of the GXR. All R lenses have an aperture ring so no hassle with electronic apertures. Leica might introduce a so called "Solution" but no one knows about this EViL? cam or similar, APS-C or Kleinbild at Photokina in 2012.

Cheers
Bernd

Hi Pavel

You can add the following lenses to the compatible list.

35mm f2.8 biogon - Zeiss
90mm f4 elmar-c Leica
135mm f4 tele-elmar Leica

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Not Compatible
Russian
Industar-50 Collapsible 50mm f3.5 (collapsed only - beware)
Therefore probably the FED-10 & Industar-22 collapsibles (cannot check)

Compatible
Russian
Jupiter-3 50mm f1.5 LTM
Jupiter-8 50mm f2.0 LTM
Jupiter-9 85mm f2.0 LTM
Jupiter-11 135mm f4.0 LTM
Jupiter-12 35mm f2.8 LTM
Russar MP-2 20mm f5.6 LTM
Orion-15 28mm f6.3 LTM
Industar-61L/D 55mm f2.8
Industar-22 Rigid 50mm f3.5 (apparently fairly rare in rigid form)
Industar-26M 52mm f2.8
Industar-50 Rigid 50mm f3.5

M-Rokkor 90mm f4.0 M Minolta (same as Elmar-C?)

slr design lenses - little or no rear protrusion on appropriate adapter, these lenses would all be subject to diameter, length and weight (on mount) restrictions ie: common sense
Canon FD Mount - all lenses should be no problem
Pentax PK Mount - all lenses should be no problem
M42 Mount - all lenses should be no problem

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Thanks Tom! The list is now updated with your tested lenses.

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Pavel you missed the important one - the Industar-50 collapsible when collapsed protrudes outside the test checker!

It is not-compatible when collapsed anyone using one should do so with extreme caution and not collapse lens into mount!

Likewise the FED-10 & Industar-22 collapsible might also not be compatible as they are a very similar if not the same lens - but I have not checked them

However the Industar-22 "rigid" and the Industar-50 "rigid" are ok - therefore you should mark them as tested compatible for the rigid version only!

Thanks Tom! I hope it's OK now? ;)

Yes thanks Pavel, I thought it more important to note the ones that did not go pass the checking device than the ones that did. The Industar-50 collapsible protrudes just a few millimetres too far when collapsed (ouch). I was just guessing that the very similar FED-10 and Industar-22 collapsible versions may have a similar problem.

It also should be noted (as you have now done) that the rigid bodies versions of the I-22 and I-50 are not a problem. It is also interesting to find that I have a rigid I-22 and Princelle (I have his book) states that the I-22 in rigid is fairly rare and I have one! Not that it is a particularly distinguished lens, looks small and neat though. He states that there were less than 2,000 units made in 1951 of the "rigid black face", but is silent on further production. Mine is a "1952" serial number 5207623 with a multi-coated mark on it also made at the KMZ factory and seemingly identical to his illustration. They may have made something like another 10,000 in 1952 year as well. Princelle also states that they made less than 2,000 I-22 "Rigid Aluminium-Face" lenses as well without the focussing tab.

I seem to have become some sort of minor authority on old Russian lens stock more by chance than in any design to do so. I have worked through the welter of their seemingly incomprehensible naming and numbering practices and now understand this better but it will be a while before I plumb the depths. At least I know the difference between an Industar-61L/D and an Industar-61L/Z and I know that the quaint snub little Industar-69 with LTM thread will not focus in LTM register without modifying with a file!

So if anyone needs a quick answer - if I have not worked it out then I am working on it.

Favourites? Well I am working on it and it will take time to figure out what is best on the GXR-M but I must try that M42 mount I-61L/Z it looks ding-dandily good and if it works well on the GXR-M then it's looks will be matched by performance. There are others but I will ramble too much.

Tom

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

You can add a few more to the list:

Konica Hexanon KM 50/2
Konica Hexanon KM 35/2
Konica Hexanon KM 28/2.8
Konica Hexanon KM 90/2.8
Zeiss ZM 21/4.5 C-Biogon
Konica Hexanon LTM 50/2.4 (collapsed or extended)

These all fit within the little plastic adapter with no issues. The 50/2.4 will collapse into the body with room to spare, using a voigtlander LTM - M adapter, and a Leitz LTM - M adapter.

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

Please add :

- Leica Elmarit-M ASPH. 1:2.8/21mm
- Leica Noctilux-M 1:1/50
- Leica Apo-Telyt-M 1:3.4/135

Best Regards
Bernhard

Re: official M mount lenses compatibility list

A rarity, but you can also add the Kobalux/Avenon/etc. 21mm f2.8 to the compatible listing. Works fine.

Brian.

Hi Brian,
Is this Kobalux equipped with L or M mount?
