Pavel wrote an excellent review comparing the GW-2 and DW-6 wide angle lens's fitted to a GRD III: http://www.ricohforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=3143

Yes, the DW-6 fitted on the GH-2 (if you can find one) and clearly gave some good results. I've just bought a 2nd hand DW-6 (£49) and I've posted below some early results with the GRD IV. I've yet to modify the little link in the GH-2 so the EXIF data still shows 6mm focal length - however the GRD IV had no trouble in focusing with the DW-6 and there were no 'hybrid' issues either.....not sure yet what will happen on auto snap but I plan to sort out the link this afternoon so the camera with think there is a GW-2 in any case (the very slight difference 0.79x rather than x0.75x is unlikely to make any difference).

Cost for me was clearly a driver here....there don't seem to be many discounted or 2nd hand GW-2s at the moment in the UK but there are plenty of discounted or 2nd hand DW-6s - however, the DW-6 is also much lighter and more compact than the GW-2 and that's all a bonus for me.

Hi Peter,
these all look fine to me and makes me wonder if I should try my DW-6 on the GRD3. I always found it a magical lens for interior work and when combined with the fast f1.9 aperture, it really ought to be a winner!
By the way, even from Vienna these pictures are all shouting 'Redcastle' to me...but I could be wrong! ;)
Well done,
Andy

Hi Andy,

Redcastle is right...on the way home from Beauly (ffordes Photographic) and the dogs wanted a walk....really wanted to visit the castle ruins which I think would look great with a 22mm lens in grainy B&W but time was against me.

Rather than use a bit of tape as Pavel did to fool the adapter, I've just used the thin end of a cocktail stick cut to about 3mm length which is held in place by the spring on link arm.

Three more DW-6 shots but this time with the EXIF sorted to give the right focal length (very small piece of wood wedged under the link on the GH-2). Some flare in #3.

Richard, very nice and surprising results.
Please tell me what I need to get the wide setup.
My White GRD4 arrived today. I plan on using it for a good long spell.
The wide converter appeals to me.....

At your command.......don

Hi Don,

Congratulations on your new white GRD4! I can't wait to see what you can do with it.

All you need to go wide wide is the GH-2 adapter and a lens - either the DW-6 or the CW-2...best to read Pavel's review to understand the differences between these lenses (you can find the review in the GRD III forum or via the link in my first message in this thread). As far as I can tell, you don't need to fool the camera if you use the DW-6 by holding down the link arm in the GH-2 unless you want the EXIF data to show the 4.5mm focal length but it's not hard to do in any case (just make sure that you don't put anything in the way of the camera's lens deploying).

If someone offered me a DW-6 or a CW-2 at the same low price which would I choose? This is a hard one to answer without having used both lenses but I'm rather taken with the relative compactness and lighter weight of the DW-6...the camera still feels well balanced with it fitted.

Some shots of the DW-6 on my GRD IV with the GV-1 viewfinder.

Richard

Thanks Richard. I'll be surfing shortly.
This is not my 1st GR and won't be my last but... It darn sure is my sexiest GR.
Thanks my friend.....don

Excellent pics indeed! My favourites are the second, fourth and fifth from the first set, and the last one from the second set (despite the lens flare). Well done ;) .
