Of course, I have also few "action" and "blockbuster" favorites, namely the already classic Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, Rambo I, Alien/Aliens or Matrix I.

ahh yes, some of these are great just for the fun and entertainment, all these action movies Pavel has mentioned move at just the right pace.
Can I add AVP - Aliens vs Predator and the other original Predator (Arnies best movie IMHO) - the question is, is AVP the sequel to Aliens or Predator ?? -- very confusing.

Another scifi horror movie I enjoyed was 'The Thing' - the version with Kurt Russel. Speaking of Kurt Russel, I have long been a fan of Stargate the movie and watched all seasons of Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. Just now enjoying Stargate Universe. Any other Stargate'rs here?

Yes! I love Stargate & I have all the SG1 boxsets & I'm collecting the Atlantis sets too sadly, I can't get on with the new Universe series  I don't like the edginess & the character conflict. It seems all programmes these days have to be grtitty, oppresive & everyone has to be arguing! I want to be entertained not wound up. :D

Have you seen Stargate, Ark of truth & Stargate, Continuum?

A handful of my favourite films, In no particular order are...

The French Taxi films 1,2,3 & 4
The Crow City Of Angles
Moon
Edenlog
Sunshine
Solaris
Event Horizon
Dante 01
Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy
Pans Labyrinth
Cronos

Hi, yes I can agree about Universe, it seems more bent on relationships than any SciFi, it has a familar feeling about it similar to the Battlestar Galactica series.
I have seen Ark of truth & Stargate, Continuum and I thought they were good endings - I do miss the Daniel Jackson character though.

Those Taxi films are awesome, love the French originals, the USA made one with Queen Latifa was a bit ordinary but ok.

the best film ever? No question - it is: Vanishing Point
Kowalski and the Dodge Charger - what a film needs more :ugeek:

I recently watched a film called Rubber.
It's about a tyre that goes on a killing spree, it sounds mad & it is. But the film is great to watch & it's also beautifully shot.
If you like films that are slightly different from the norm I thoroughly recommend this to anyone.

I'm hoping to see Troll Hunter soon anyone seen it yet? :D

Just watching The Big Labowski again after years. It's still great.
One of the best movies made by the Coen brothers ever.
Great dialogue, music, cast & story.
Still entertaining after all these years. :)

I recently saw the French film <<Elle s'appelait Sarah>>. Here in the States it's title is "Sarah's Key". Subtitled in English. Leading actor is Kristin Scott Thomas who plays a reporter for a NY magazine, married to a Frenchman, living in Paris. It's about her investigation into the WWII roundup & incarceration of Jews in Paris. Sad but profound. I think it was released in France last year. Ken

Dracula (1931) for lighting. If only I could light a portrait like that. I was rivetted with jealousy and admiration. You must see it; it's no Hammer Horror production. Pure class. Likewise, the earlier expressionist classic Metropolis (1927) is the business, but Dracula took it to a whole new level for me. Casablanca (1942)'s and Out of the Past (1947) were highlights of the expressionist-related noir movement. More recently Bladerunner and The Crow also have special places in my heart and visual imagination. For foreign language, who can not love any of Akira Kurosawa works. However, Dracula is still the movie that first jumps into my head when asked for 'the best'.
