Thanks for the impressions, folks! It was an interesting (and frustrating) shot in post-processing for me. The early evening light was fading fast, and the natural light-collecting properties of the flower's petals (concentrating that light upon the center of the flower) is the interesting part. Unfortunately, the only way that I have found to show that "glow" is to allow the surrounding surfaces of the flower's petals (as well as the background in general) to "recede into shadow". There is very little "color contrast" in the white-colored petals, and illuminating them more in their outer areas does not (to my eye) make for an interesting image. So I chose to allow the "glow" in the flower's center-area to predominate ...
When I view the entire image, it appears to be too dim for (even) my eyes. But when one concentrate's on the flower's center, the unique glow of the flower's center makes the shot special.
As in life, sometimes we find only small oasis' of light within the darkness - but one is thankful for those small wonders ...
Thank you, Detail Man. It is a lovely flower, laying there on the forest floor. It looks sad, like it's awaiting doom. Perhaps some child will come and pull the trilliums three petals off, thereby killing it forever.
Um, must have been in a downer mood the day I made that post. Sorry! In my own defense, it was also my mother's birthday. Hey, I've got issues, but anyway, sorry, :^)
