What next for GXR?

So far, we have the following lenses:

  • A12 28mm
  • A12 50mm
  • A12 M Mount
  • P10 28-300mm
  • S10 24-72mm

Plus a bunch of peripherals, such as the GV-1, GV-2, VF-2, GF-1, DW-6, TC-1, etc.

What other modules and accessories are in the GXR product pipeline? What would you like to see?

Personally, I want more A12 primes. A fast 35mm is my top wish list item, but an ultra-wide and a long portrait lens would help to grow the system. I could do with a TTL radio trigger. A CS- or C-mount module would stop me buying the Kenko. Is it time for a new grip unit?

The next one is APSC zoom, most probably 24-85/90 (unknown apertures). If nothing changed, it should be available around the end of this year?

I personally would like to see a small pancake-like 40/1.4 and maybe 21/2.8? The fast mid-tele ranges could be covered by the manual lenses and the M mount module.

I don't really care about the long tele ranges and zoom lenses, because they would add the weight and size.

What I really expect to see in a near future is a new GXR body with redesigned button layout (at least two more FN button), front/rear rollers, PD-AF sensors (like in CX5 and most probably GRDIV), larger RAW buffer, proximity sensor that would automatically switch the LCD/EVF and because I'm greedy, an integrated EVF (even at a cost of smaller main LCD) ;)

I'm not keen on the X-series, but if being compact is the top priority then they are the way to go.

Yes, a new body would be nice with video to match Sony with 1080p60. An A12 zoom with specs the same as the S10(24-72 f2.5-4.4) would be perfect. Then justb have a quality 0.75 or 0.84 wide adapter for 18mm or 20mm without needing a separate module(unless the adapter would be too big) Collapsable, like the Panny X series, would be great as long as it doesn't sacrifice IQ. Better dust sealing or some way to clean the sensor would be nice.
AND a Canadian Distributor!

I am puzzled by your post. The video on the Ricoh GXR modules seems to be based on the module not the body so I presume there is no reason why a new lens module with 1080p can't be introduced if there is a demand for it. I doubt if Ricoh would repeat themselves with an identical zoom range to the existing S10 module. I expect it has been difficult to design the zoom module that would be reasonably fast and not too large. You mentioned a collapsable lens, like the Panny X series, being great as long as it doesn't sacrifice IQ in the same breath as wanting wide adapters that definitely do sacrifice quality.

Sorry about my confusing post. The existing GXR body has no dedicated movie record button so would be difficult to record movies in PASM modes. Also, there is only 1 mic and no mic jack for a small hot shoe mounted mic. As for the APS-C(A12, or would it be A16 with a newer sensor) zoom, I was under the impression that this is the next lens module to be released, but I could be wrong. Regarding the wide adapters, do they need to be bad quality? I'm sure they could make a "good" one for less than the cost of another module.

Yep, the next module will be the ASPC zoom. But I doubt it will be based on the newer 16MP sensor. But we may not know until we see it ;)
