Warning - formatting card deletes MYSET folder

On the GXR A12 mount - if you have stored any "My settings" on the SD Card, they are stored in a folder MYSET and this folder is deleted if you format the card in the camera. (I routinely format the card in the camera after I have transferred the photos to my computer). I kind of expected Ricoh not to delete that folder, but they do.
I have now backed up this folder on my computer.

Hi braeside and welcome here! Good find. Thank you for letting us know!

On the one hand, it's pretty logical that Format card deletes everything from the card, as would do formatting of HDD. On the other hand, one would expect some kind of protection of these custom settings? ;)

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, it has been pointed out that the solution is to use DELETE ALL instead of FORMAT. I routinely use FORMAT on my cameras to make sure the card is OK, so will have to remember this in future.

Can the MYSET be stored on the cameras memory. Then change the setting to store on card?

In a roundabout way yes. You can recall a setting from the camera settings box to a MySet dial memory and then select that dial setting. Then you can choose to register that setting to one of memory slots on the card. For some reason you have to put in the Lens name/focal length and aperture again though, by editing the setting afterwards.

Another suggestion is perhaps backup the folder with the images and recopy it back to the card after the format. Does this folder/files change much, if not you could also perhaps prep a second card ready to go with the backup.
