Re: Self Portrait

Thanks Albert. I kept the (my) right hand side wide because as I was cropping the photo, I imagined I was panning the light (as you do at the peed of light) and I imagined it being forced to stop at my head whilst the panning camera did not react quickly enough and carried on into dark space.

Tech info- Canon 430EX ll off camera with home made tube to reduce/prevent flash spread and keep lit area as small as possible. Wireless remote flash controler by Hahnel on the hot shoe. Flash on manual at 1/32 sec. slightly to front of my head pointing diagonal to fire across rsther thsn on to my face. Placed about 3ft away.

Re: Self Portrait

It's a really great shot. Thanks for sharing the set-up. Some time ago I bought a GF-1 secondhand for a really good price - it allows for a remote trigger using the camera's own flash and comes with a stand - I've played a bit with it but will play a bit more having seen what you are doing. It's interesting that you see very, very few flash shots on this forum yet in the days of film it was much more common. I suppose being able to push-up the ISO to something unheard of in the days of film is partly the reason but in the 'old days' flash was a creative subject in its own right and I think you have captured that with this shot...one to be very proud of.

Re: Self Portrait

Nice to see the man behind the viewfinder.
That black blank area to the left could be used for a business card contact details or other.
Nice side lighting.
