Underwater GR

Hey guys, I posted this question over at seriouscompacts.com and got no answer, perhaps this is the place to get some points and tips to it.

Is there any housing/underwater case for the ricoh GR (apsc) I know there were for the IV but I cant seem to find one for the GR. I also know about the dicpacs bags which is kinda "one size fits all" approach and Im afraid to screw the camera after a while.

any tips would be highly appreciated.
thanks

chris.

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum,
It is a bit frustrating to post a question and get no answer.
I can at least discuss it with your but I can't offer a solution.

The only two brands I've ever really known about were Sea & Sea and ewa-marine (Australian?) and I notice they don't have anything specific for the GR.
ewa-marine have the GR in their list of options but the housing looks much like the dicpac. - http://www.ewa-marine.com/index.php?id=541&L=0.
Sorry but there does not seem to be much about.

Back in the 70's my brother custom built a perspex housing for my dad's Voigtlander Vito II. It leaked.
A professionally built custom job may be your only other option. Probably price prohibitive for you?

Is it worth contacting Sea & Sea to find out if the GRD IV housing will work or could be modified to work?

Thanks Tim,

Yeah it looks like no one does a house or casing for the GR, I tried one of those plastic bags, one was TOO tight and you could only press the shutter no way of changing any setting, and the other bag was a bit loose but produced heavy vignetting on the images. So I think ill go with a point and shoot camera that can go underwater. might be the best option for me.

thanks anyway! :)

hey bud,

I was looking on buying a G1X II w/ Ikelite housing or an RX100 II w/ Ikelite housing for our vacation this early April but then I remembered that I had a GR.
Like you, I started looking for an underwater housing for it and sadly, there aren't any, then I found about the Dicapac. Went to the website, inputted the Ricoh GR and it recommended the WP-510 waterproof case.
For $40 each, might as well give it a try.
I ordered 2, one on Ebay and one on Amazon, hoping that at least one will make it to me before April 4.

Will keep you updated on how the camera will perform on it, but so far, I'm thinking the setting will be:
-no auto-turn off
-center AF

Thanks man cant wait to hear your feedback about it!.

Sea and Sea did a casing for the GX100/200. Not as good for IQ as a GR, but you do get a zoom...
They turn up on ebay from time to time.
Don't forget to grease the seals.

Here's a test shot of the Ricoh GR inside the WP-510 waterproof case on my 24G aquarium

Vignettes alot at 28mm (like peeping through a hole), usable on 35mm and 50mm.
Ergonomics is not the best, have to hold it like a P&S camera.
I will preconfigure it on TAV, f/2.8, 1/200th S, center AF before putting it inside the case.
