Two bows

Blow-in

Active Member
Well it's not landscape and not quite architecture but I think this is the closest topic index for these two pictures of the bows of 2 very different vessels seen in Inverness yesterday.

Orcades is a very smart trawler yacht currently moored for winter in the Seaport Marina of the Caledonian Canal. The work boat was moored in the River Ness part of Inverness Port.

Very nice Richard!
The last time I was in an interesting ports was 4 years ago in Genoa - couldn't take my eyes off the yachts and cruise ships. But I didn't have a camera then....

Richard,

when opening a new posting, the first that pops up is the picture: sunny, yacht...Mediterranean Sea or similar!

One can be so wrong just by assuming that the weather in Scotland must be equally awful as it has been here in eastern Austria this winter so far. A report issued today states that by statistics only the winter 1903/1904 was worse than this one regarding sunshine hours. Anyway....

Your shots are great. I especially like the first one where the light of the water is reflected on the sidewall of the yacht, but also the B/W is impressive. That A12 50mm really delivers good results regarding colour and sharpness.

Thanks for sharing!

I noticed that part of the image as well, my eye was drawn to it. Reminds me of sunny afternoons at the boat docks as a kid!

Quester, Michael, Tim,

Thank you for your kind remarks. I was also pleased with the water reflections on the bow of Orcades. We've had the most extraordinary run of fine February weather here on the Moray Firth coastline courtesy of a high pressure zone centred over head. I think this is day 11 of blue skies interrupted only by one foggy morning a week ago and even that burnt off. It's still pretty cold though with minus figures (Celsius) at night and it looks like cloud arriving tomorrow.

The sunlight is quite 'hard' so avoiding white saturation takes a bit of work.

Very nice shots Richard, though in very different ways.
You seems to be settling in nicely to the A12 unit + GXR combination!

Excellent photos Richard, don't suppose you could send a bit of your nice weather further south, well at least as far as Staffordshire anyway...

Your GXR+A12 sure can produce the goods :)

Great shots Richard, the first is particularly nice due to the reflections...
