Timelapses "Starry Nights above Southern Africa" (GXR A16)

Hi all,

finally I managed to finish a special site devoted to nocturnal timelapses I have taken with my GXR A16 during our July trip to southern Africa. You can find it on my timelapse website (http://www.setvak.cz/timelapse/timelapse.html), under "2012 - Starry Nights above Southern Africa" there. Hope you will like it! ;)

The other, older posts related to this trip are here:

And below are two images created from the nocturnal timelapse series, processed with the "Startrails Application" software (http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html); the one from Mile 108 is made from 25 individual images, and the one from Xaragu is made from the entire series (2 hours 20 minutes, 237 individual images).

These are astonishing images Martin. I have not so far tried time lapse astrophotography but you are inspiring my to try though given the amount of cloud and cold nocturnal temperatures in UK I may leave it until my trip to Western Australia in January when it is summer with clear skies and warm nights. It is also easier to to get away from unwanted sources of light.

As I already posted elsewhere: Great photos and videos, Martin!!! What skies "down" there in Africa!
I have to download the software that you used for the two photos myself and try it.
I also visited your site today and watched your 2012 time-lapse videos -- very nice (I love particularly the video with the mist)!
Best regards, Gerd

The software, location and photographer certainly combine to make a stunning study of the night sky here. On the second image my first thought was 'so many stars!' I guess the dark sky and long exposure allows the camera 'eye' to capture those which we do not often see in our light-poluted skies.
Really like these image: makes we want to get out there this winter and see what I can achieve myself! Thank you very much for your posting Martin.

Breath taking stuff, Martin. The time-lapses are unbelievable adding real sense of deepness of the universe. I had to hold the desk to not be sucked into the space when watching 20120712_1915-2100utc_Crux_Ai-Ais.mp4. Many thanks for posting and allowing us to enjoy.

Peter

And here is my humble attempt in using the Startrails application myself with images that I took two years ago (half an hour, then the camera stopped, Big Dipper)...
Best regards, Gerd
