The Pool

We have the second oldest open air swimming pool in the UK in our town and it has a most stunning setting with the old castle in the background.

It is a real sun trap and even though only open between May and Sep it is well used.

It also makes a nice scene to photograph and the GR captures it well.

Thanks Spode,

We live about 300m away so a quick walk dowwn the lane and we are at the pool.

Many make a day of it as the lttle white hut sells fot food & drinks as well as cold so people relax, swim, sunbathe and eat well all in a nice sheltered sun trap.

Nice photo.. I ordered my GR today.. But it will take me along time before I can take pictures with it as good as you do!

Looks like a good reason to get a wide converter for your GR. You`d get the whole pool without cropped ;) corners.

Its so unusual for me to see a modern pool in the setting of the old castle.
It has a real push/pull effect. Its just a perception from someone not used to seeing them together

Hi Tim,

There is nothing modern about this pool, it is 143yrs old and used to be the bath house for the Earl's bodyguard (The current Earl lives about 200yds away from the other side of the castle that you can see in the background).

This pool is still filled by it's artesian well so the character of it lives on.

Blue sky (almost), blue pool...a little piece of heaven!
I guess the Early could check the bodyguard from the battlements to see that they were not skipping a length or two...

LOL Andy,

The Earl's mansion is the other side of the castle and about 200m away - the castle was purely for the troops not on duty.

It is a very popular and well used pool but only open May to Sep................no roof!
