The Piano

Very tough lighting. I notice you say "with the help of a decent light meter" did you use something else than your Ricoh?
I'd be going spot meter mode and probably initially would have gone to the sheet music. I suspect that would have over exposed a fair bit.
A DR mode image from the GRD may have helped a lot but stabilizing handheld is the issue there.

How did you go about this one.. Peter?

Hi Tim
I got a Gossen light meter at the same time as I got my Bronica SQ. I thought I would give it a run at some tricky light to see how I got on with it using the GRD3 too. I wanted to capture the richness in the wood and in the general room tones. The meter decided (based on my input of 100 iso +5.6 aperture) on 1/160sec. Seems to have worked here using the ambient light setting. I was basically testing the light meter to ensure that it was giving the correct readings to give me confidence in using it with Veronica the Bronica.
cheers
Pete

The shine on the floor really works well, adding balance to the composition. One senses a triangle of interest between the golden honey wood of the piano body, the window, and its refection. A good feel photo, Peter!

Thanks guys, I am thrilled with the light meter as an addition to my ever expanding list of camera equipment. It seems to have added an extra (and welcome) dimension to my shots. This sort of work is the exact opposite to my street stuff....more considered.....more time taken. Iove the buzz of street, but I am growing very fond of still life/landscape as an antidote to the rush, rush.....rush!
