It's a beautiful picture. Is the window light on the wall painted?

Yes, when the sun was shining one day, I painted in the patch of sunlight. Of course the real daylight varies in position during the day (and on the day when I took the photograph the light was more diffuse) but I feel the painted patch helps emphasise the contrast between light and shade in that room. Similarly the window recess is also painted white to make it brighter.
