Hallett Cove is situated on the coastal cliffs just south of Adelaide. It is a relatively small but highly concentrated area of geomorphic and geological interest. Landforms derived from glacial events are prominent at Hallett Cove, exposed by recent erosion. Features from the Permian Glaciation (about 280my ago) are found here; they are of considerable local interest and subject to study by researchers from Australia and overseas. Evidence of other geomorphic events (including a newer glaciation and an older glaciation) can also be found here.

Perhaps the best known feature of Hallett Cove Conservation Park is the Sugarloaf. It is a residual landform, exposed as surrounding material has been weathered and removed. It sits within a depression called the Ampitheatre. The coloured layers hold the key to understanding the original formation of these features. Wow, stitched together from 21 photos, that must have been difficult! Photomatix, aren't they the same people who produce the HDR software? Is photo stitching also a feature of that software?

Sorry I made it sound biggera than it was. No what I ment was I took 7 shots bracketed with ±5EV that i batch converted in Photomatix Pro 3 to HDR. That gave me 7 HDR shots to put into Hugin to stitch into one.
21 = 7HDR = 1 stiched together. ;)
The light was low because of early morning but Photomatrix ohmphed it up nicely

Thanks Phil,
as a bit of a geologist (which bit I cannot quite remember some days...must be an age-thing!) I find this works for me on several levels...scientific, technical, artistic...ticks all the boxes I would say!
I must find a way to visit your beautiful country whilst I am still fit enough to enjoy it! :)

Wow, Phil, what a great work! Altough surreal too, I would love to see this place "au naturel", I mean beeing there not in photo ;-)

Thanks for sharing! Another pin in the map :mrgreen:

Great work Phil! Very decent use of HDR. And thanks for background info! It's nice to read about places some of us may probably never visit ;)

Phil, the photo is awesome. Interesting subject, perfect processing and colouring. Thanks for posting.
BTW, where are all the glaciers now? It would be handy to have some of them when the heat is too high, wouldn't it.

Peter

Even though it was some 30-40 odd ?? :oops: years ago I can recall as a young student having a field trip to this area and studying the geology.
We spent a lot of time snorkeling nearby also!
Certainly an interesting place and only a short walk from the outer suburbs.
