Hey, I'm new to the board, but I've been using the Ricoh GR ever since it came out.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the past couple months.
My opinions about the camera:
Pros:
-The GR is absolutely amazing at black and white conversions. I have no idea why, but the tonal range is just so rich and vibrant.
-I'm sure you guys know already, but it's the best camera in my opinion for candid street photos.
-It does fit in your pocket and will be there for you more times than even a micro 4/3 camera.
-The lens is extremely sharp.
-Ergonomics are amazing.
-The camera is one tough cookie, it's taken quite a bit of abuse.
Cons:
-The color profile is pretty weird on this camera, in color photos actually require a lot of color correcting, and even after they just don't seem right.
-Despite the apsc sensor, shallow depth of field is extremely hard to come by.
-28mm is a tough sell for portrait photos, but if you know what you're doing or if you're lucky it's not the worst.
-Using the camera past 1600ISO is a bit of a push. Images get quite noisy.
-No image stabilization is actually a huge disadvantage, definitely be wary of switching to the GR if you're coming from olympus micro 4/3 cameras such as the OMD.
Tips for use:
-In low light, I tend to use the AF lamp quite often depending on the situation. I always make sure it's the first option when I hit the menu button.
-Manual focus is actually quite viable if you get used to the controls.
Overall, the GR is a camera that has a very unique character. At least to me it doesn't serve as an "all in one" camera, but it's definitely my primary tool now for anything but portrait photos, and I'm very happy with it.
