Some pictures from Italy in B&W

Haven't posted here since.....just looked and its...gasp 2010....sorry! Other stuff getting in the way, but I have popped in from time to time to have a peek.

Anyway, here's a few B&W images from a wander in various bits of Italy, where its a tad different from my Scottish home, and all the more interesting and inspiring for it.

All shot with a GR, which has since failed and been replaced with a GR3. I usually carry it in a shirt pocket tied onto a piece of string so I can pull it out when I need to which makes it quick and easy and unobtrusive.

I'll maybe pop up some colour ones as well at some point.

Thank you, glad you liked them. Yes I used the hi cotrast settnig for some - mainly the street scenes where there is major sunlight areas with existing high contrast. For others I just shoot colour and do it later if it looks like it might be a good one. But the B&W setting is a HUGE boon to previsualise the likely effect.

Its a useful feature to simply walk around looking at scenes with, it changes both your perception and appreciation of 'ordinary' stuff you might otherwise walk past. Well worth experimenting with in my opinion!
 
I really like these, the use of light and shadow is awesome. Particularly wonderful is the Escher-like composition of what appears to be the stairwell of what may be a Renaissance building. Makes me want to go to Italy and take only my GR III.

Glad you enjoyed them! The GR's make this stuff 'easy' in physical terms becasue it can be pulled out and used with one hand very quickly and when needed discretely too. That ease (for me) makes it a really useful way to easily explore visually places I visit. The Hi Contrast b&w setting can help with the light/shade visualising.
