Ok, a big hint is, that bit of tree you can see on the right is a reflection. So...

I visited some botanic gardens, but probably not the right one as have no idea what it could be.

you have this one, its sheets of glass in a big laminate and cut to make a sculpture. Its in the botanic gardens and you've mentioned that here so its a double win for you
Phil would have seen this many times, it was gracious of him to bow out!
