Schould I protect the screen of the camera ?

I have the ACMAXX LCD protector on both my GRD and GX200. I wouldn't be without them. not only are they good protectors of the screen, they are removable and replaceable to remove encroached dust. The LCD on the GRD1 is almost unusable in bright light; the protector actually improves it to the point where I can see it quite well. Better on the GX also.
I have a friend with the GRIII and his screen is not only bigger, but noticeably better in bright light than both of mine and uses a different version with good results also... I would thoroughly recommend them.... ;)

As for the lens protectors, can't help you. On both cameras I use screw-on UV filters.... ;)

Hi Sergio and welcome to the forum! Yes, I (and my partner) use the exact same protectors on our LCD screens (not the lens). They are awesome - they stay on, even if taken off several times, and they also help a bit to reduce the glare on the LCD screen. They look like they are meant to be part of the camera, and are very effective in protecting the screen due to the tough plastic. They are WAAAAY better than the flimsy peel off/on sticky plastic protectors, and well worth it. They are very cheap also. We bought ours off eBay though, so maybe if you search on there you can get them cheaper than in the retail shops. Look forward to seeing your GRD IV pictures on here soon :) .

thanks :p

is it possible to scratch the AXMAXX protector or it is not possible because it is too hard ?

of which material is the protector made ? glass ?

does they also exist in sapphier ? too expensive I suppose.....

Hi Sergio and welcome here! It's definitely a very good idea to protect your camera LCD. The only downside of this kind of protection are occasional reflexes. But after some time, you will clearly see how many times the protector saved your LCD ;) Protectors like AXMAXX are made from hardened plastic, so they are not very resistant to scratches. However, they should absorb some serious bumps and so protect your camera LCD. As far as I know, the sapphire glass is used only on Leica M8/M9 for an additional (mountain high) fee. However, as long as the sapphire glass is scratch resistant , it's not very good in case of bumps. I think the plastic protection is good and very reliable kind of protection.

A while ago I bought a tablet on which was a thin plastic protective film. I have cut a screen protector for my GXR out of it ... :D

A plastic film protection is in my opinion good against occasional scratches. But it will not protect the LCD from harder impacts. As for the glass, I don't think there is an advantage of using pure glass LCD protection cover, if there is such a thing? True, it may have better reflection/refraction index and better coating against the reflexes. But that's probably all? Of course, I would care about plastic/glass material in case of protecting front lens element, where the plastic is definitely no-no! But I really don't care about LCD. Plastic LCD protection is cheep and sure way to protect the LCD.

Never had problems with scratching on the ACMAXX LCD cover and have had the cover on the camera for at least 6 months now. As long as you use the camera sensibly and don't abuse it, then you won't get scratches on the plastic cover - which, by the way, is so tough, it feels like glass.

could you show me a picture of your camera with the ACMAXX LCD cover on the camera if it is not too much work for you please ?

which model of the ACMAXX is good for the camera ?

they should sell it also in switzerland where i live.....

how much did you pay it if i can ask ? in switzerland things cost much more than in the usa

Here are the pics:

As for the model - you just search your camera model to come up with the right one.

I bought mine off eBay from a seller in the US. You can visit his store to check out what he currently has in stock:

http://stores.ebay.com.au/onlinefred62

I paid app. $14.60 (AUS Dollars), which included postage costs. If you can't find one in Switzerland, you could always buy one off eBay or another web site.

It has a scratch proof UV coating, or low-reflection coating, so it helps reduce glare and you can see the image on the LCD better.

Hope this helps.

In Switzerland maybe is easier to find one from DORR (Germany). It is almost identical. You should order the standard for 3" screen (screen is 4/3 with an aprox size of 60.5mmx45.5mm). The protector is roughly 65x49. It is policarbonate as the acmaxx, not schott glass. Price is average in the 10/15 Euros area. Compared to Matin (corean brand), is thinner (around 0.6mm vs 1mm), but I do not know how it compares to the acmaxx. Good to know for the next one if you are able to find out.
Hope this helps.

I have a GXR and I'm protecting the screen with a 3,0" LCD GGS Cover.
This kind of protector is made of optical glass and I think is a very good solution.

I normally have extra pieces of screen protector left over from various gadgets so I just cut then a bit smaller for my cameras.
