Rome Italy in 2 Hours

Got to make this quick as I'm up too late already. Here's a couple snaps from earlier this evening. I only had 2 hours in Rome and it was already getting dark. My story and photos on my blog:

I love those Duane, would print the first and the one before last and submit them to a gallery. Truly superb! Mind telling your settings on the one before last?

Morning radical,

Most all were shot wide open at f2.0. The next to last one was f2.0, ISO 200, 1/34.

Glad you liked them. I'm happy they turned out better than what I could imagine I could do in such low light.

It's shots like these that remind me why I like B&W. # 3, 4 & 5 are especially interesting.

I really like #3. In addition to the way it combines the classic and the mundane - a thing in which Italy excels - the play of shapes and light is wonderful. A moment later and the shadow of the couple would not be on the wall; the couple are in a half-circle of light and shadow, as if on stage; the receding line of arches give a sense of depth and grandeur; the melting of the straight lines of the gate into the rounded ones of their shadow make this interesting to look at.

what can one say but perfectomundo! Really super, super stuff. Being a street kind of guy I especially like the phone user in the car. But all are just superb and a reminder to me of a benchmark I need to cross.

Thank you all for the very wonderful comments.

Quester, I almost missed this shot. I saw it setting up and someone next to me stepped in front of me a micro-second after I pressed the shutter release. In fact I rushed the shot. I tried a do over but the moment was gone for another try.

I'm happy it turned out the way it did.

Rog, it wasn't until I was post processing that number 3 came together and had not seen how dramatic the natural vignette effect ended up working.

Thanks petach. I'm not sure what benchmark you need to cross. I'm still searching for a benchmark!

Awesome set Duane! ;) I see that the cron is back at home! You must forward the details and disclose the Ricoh VC upgrade (Vibration Correction) that you have implemented in your M module...

The cron is back at home having been CLA'd by Youxin and a fine job he did. Removed the little bit of haze it had, fixed the aperture issue and smoothed out the focusing.

Maybe he snuck in the VC upgrade for me!!!

Very nice Duane, they tell a story. I like 1 and 3 the most. How do you process the BW shots? I like the results.

Thanks Cristian! I have Silver Efex Pro and had been using it a lot. But I found I spent way too much time playing and not getting much done. I used Aperture to catalog my photos and I've made some of my own B&W Presets inside Aperture using Aperture's Adjustments & Effects. Now when I import my photos from the camera I can apply the preset during import. Then I only have minor changes I may make to get the final version. Its a very big time saver and I think the images keep the same feel throughout.
