Ricoh Language Menus Question (Japanese/English)

Have a question which I'm hoping some more experienced GR/GRD owners/users can answer -

Am considering buyng a lightly used GRD IV from Japan. It will be a Japanese market camera. My understanding is that the Japan market cameras only come with two language choices - Japanese and English. Not a problem for me - as long as I can figure out a way to go into the menus and switch the language from Japanese to English -

But - how exactly would I go about doing that, since I don't speak or read any Japanese?

Is there any simple way - or simplfied step-by-step instructions - that a non-Japanese speaker/non-Japanese reader - such as myself - could use to navigate the Japanese language menu of a GRD IV to select English?

Hope someone can help me there. Thanks!

I think you are right about the dual language option only on Japanese domestic market cameras but changing from Japanese to English is easy because the option in the menu comes up in English as well as whatever language is set. Just hit menu (centre hard button on rear 'ring', scroll down to the 3rd level menu (screwdriver & spanner symbol) then go to page 4/4 where language will be the top option. Enter on the menu button then change to English.

The GRD4 is a great camera. While it may not have the IQ of the GR or the high ISO performance, the smaller sensor makes it very easy to use and it has hybrid focus and image stabiization which the GR does not have. When you get the camera, we can discuss some of the useful settings. I'm a big fan of the Dynamic Range Compensation.

Thanks for the quick and quite helpful answer, Richard (aka Blow-In). I came within a hair's breadth of buying a nice GRD IV directly from Japan - but at the last minute, decided to go even more deeply into debt for an incredibly nice newer GR that I ran across whose owner was also including a ridiculously nifty OVF Ricoh viewfinder with it. So I'm not going to have to follow your instructions - but I'm joining the metaphoric Ricoh GR/GRD family shortly.

Cheers!

Miguel
