Ricoh GXR finishing..? Is it true..? See link below....

I think it has to be true. The same article has appeared elsewhere and it is now some years since Ricoh added new modules or provided FW updates. There have been rumours of a GXR2 but no real detail so pehaps the whole concept has died whch would be a terrible shame.

It's hard now to find new complete GXR 'sets' in the UK unless you pay full price at a smaller dealer such as FFordes Photographic. SRS Micro Systems & Clifton Cameras both have bits of the system at discounted prices. Interestingly the A12 units disappeared for a while with these dealers but are now back on the market so I think all the new old stock is being concentrated. SRS have just discounted the A12 28 to only £149! If you can find the body at a reasonable price (SRS were clearing them new @ £125) you could enter the world of compact APS-C 28 mm photography for around £250 - 275 which is a big saving on a new GR. How does the GXR A12 28 compare in actual performance to the GR? This remains an open question although the GR clearly has a better spec and almsot certainly (no proof) much better high ISO performance.

Perhaps the final chance to buy a new camera that in years to come will be seen to be an icon?

Hi Richard

Thanks for your interesting comments. I think you have summed it up absolutely right.....!

I agree entirely that the time has come to grab GXR bits as much as we can, as soon as we can. This is my opinion, anyway, as I am a keen user and a great fan of GXR system, despite the limitations.

I would have liked to buy an A12 50mm new from SRS, but the last one they had is sold now. I am going to buy a couple of the A12 28mm units straightaway, if they are still available.....thanks for putting this information on this forum. One cannot go wrong at £149 price tag, it is a steal. I intend convert one of these to Full Spectrum Infra red for my personal use.
