Hi mind share with us your experience with A12 that had you made the above comment?? =)

A12 AF is definitely faster than X1 AF. It's just slower than for example Panasonic GF1 and from what I saw, slower than Samsung NX10 too. It's especially bad when the light and so shutter speed drops under certain value. Simply, there are other mirror-less cameras with noticeable faster AF. But it's not the case of X1 ;)

I think the slow AF would be much less a problem with an option to limit the AF range. Also, it would be helpful if the A12 MF ring would be a mechanical one and not the widely hated fly-by-wire ring, which is nowhere as fast to use as mechanical one.

I'm glad it is faster than my X1. I love the X1, but I don't need another slow camera. I think my best bet is to keep waiting and use what I have.

Hi jsrockit !!! As you may possible read in a thread about my doubt in buying the X1, would you please tell me how was your "everyday" experiencie with the X1? Is it worth the money that it cost? Do you feel the "leica" IQ in the photos you take? I´m a printer, so IQ is the RAW file it`s crucial in a proyect I`m starting soon. Thanks

I tested out the GXR with A12 2 days back in camera shop, the AF seems to be a bit slow, but I think I can live with that, but what prevent me from buying it (a very good deals for a second hand GXR+A12+spare battery+EVF at amazing price) is the screen freeze on autofocus....

For instance, I am focusing on my friend, it take a while, once it's in focus the screen is freeze for a while, and what annoying me is since my friend is already moved a little bit, it's not in focus anymore... and I have to try again and again.... this make it very hard for street photography or snapshot.... unless I am photographing a static object!

I really wish to get a GXR (I like my GRD II & III), but that flaws really killed off the thoughts...

Anyone know if the recent firmware has resolve this screen freeze issue?

Else I think I will have to wait for the 28mm to be released, and hopefully it didn't have this problems anymore.

Thanks.

Regards,
Jeff

A12 "screen freeze" is solved if you switch the camera to FR-AF mode (the camera must be updated with FW 1.0.7 or newer). The problem is, that in this mode is the A12 AF even slower than in the mode with screen freeze ;)

A lot of people complained about the screen freeze in GRDII so Ricoh solved this problem in GRDIII by disabling the faster AF with screen freeze and now you see no screen freeze, but GRDIII AF speed is not great either. With GXR A12 you can choose, which method of AF should be used. Faster with screen freeze or slower without screen freeze. Unfortunately, there is nothing between.
