Ricoh GRDIII announced!

Only an hour ago, Ricoh Japan announced their latest achievement in GRD evolution. It's called GRDIII and there is a lot of new things under the hood. I'm sure, a lot of GRDI and II users will be pleased to find some of the frequently asked features in GRDIII.

Let's see what's new:
- Brighter GR lens 28mm F1.9
- New design of lens group in Macro mode
- New high-sensitivity CCD 10MP 1/1.72"
- 3" LCD with 920.000 pixels
- GR Engine III with new Noise Reduction circuit and image processing
- Added Shutter speed priority
- Added Dynamic Range Double Shot (CX1-like)
- New Full Press Snap AF mode
- New Multi-pattern WB for scenes with mixed light (like fluorescent and sun light)
- New FN button at a position of self-timer
- New My3 position on mode dial
- New GH-2 hood and adapter and GW-2 (21mm) conversion lens
- New GF-1 Ricoh dedicated TTL flash (available in October)

and what's improved?
- Significantly faster AF with new Full press Snap mode and Pre-AF mode
- Selectable Snap Focus distance
- Improved base dynamic range (+ new CX-like dual shot DR mode)
- Improved RAW writing speed (2.6secs per RAW or even faster – depends of card)
- Up to 5 RAW + JPEG images in continuous mode
- Improved AWB accuracy
- Even more customization options
- Added new HUE/Saturation controls for individual image colors (in 5 levels).
- Digital/analog chip redesigned for better performance and less color noise.
- It's now again possible to use ANY aperture with ANY shutter speed (e.g. F1.9 with 1/2000)!
- Front wheel/Adj. lever functionality can be swapped in Manual and playback mode.
- GRDIII buttons are now again matte!
- Many other small improvements

There is a good news for GRDII owners! Some of the GRDIII feature will be availabel in form of FW update also for GRDII! Stay tuned! The last GRDII FW should be available from 5th of August.

There is a lot to like with this new GRD. Can't wait to see some RAW files! :lol:
 
I guess some people will be let down with the fact that the sensor isn't bigger and it will be the usual bitching over at dpreview but personaly this is, at a first glance, way more then I dared to hope for. Way to go Ricoh!

"Ricoh showed us some example images (printed about 10x15) at ISO 800 and 1600 and some against what might sensibly be considered a benchmark camera and they looked pretty promising.

Of course they were Ricoh's own shots so we have no way of knowing how they were shot and prepared but we certainly didn't get the impression that it was an area they were shying away from.
