I did some snapshots with my GR4 and a few comparison shots with my GR3. Both in DNG and Jpeg. I uploaded it to dropbox. You can download the images there:

So, what do you think? How big is the difference? Do you see a mist-filter effect?

I only checked on my mobile for now so i dont fully trust what is showing. It seems a very very sligth enhancement of lights blooming, but i do think this is done in software by ricoh as many seems to like the hdf and is popular in Asia and the US at the moment.
The table with the long ledlight-fixture seems almost identical with blooming in the light on both pictures, except a bit more reddish colouring on the IV file. It is very cloudy in europe at the moment i think, but mistfilter blooming effect should come up in bw modes and sunlight thru the clouds or reflections in water etc, i think, would that be possible for you to test?

mmmmhhhh....

I am not sure anymore, whether the upgrade is worth it for me. Especially since I prefer the 40mm focal length (GR3x). It is a lot of money and I have already 28mm covered with my GR3.

Selling my GR3 and paying on top for the GR4 might be a bad idea in my situation.

It seems that if you want to have a meaningful step up in image quality for a 28mm P&S, you have to pick the Leica Q3. But this is a totally different price range and a lot bigger & heavier than the GR3/GR4.

If there is an improvement in the lens quality with the GR4, it seems to be a rather small one. The faster operation, faster AF etc. is not something I really need. Even the tiny GR3 battery last long enough for my use cases.

Maybe I sell both, GR3 and GR4 and see, whether I will miss a 28mm in such a small package or whether the GR3x with its 40mm will be enough for me...

Well I am still interested in the IV, but I'll have to get my hands on one to test first. Also have been thinking of getting a 3x as there has been some great offers (missed out on a 799e offer recently in local store). But as rhe GR and GRIII still resides with us, I might just stay with them, i haven't even learned all the stuff on the III yet... And the 28mm is the true soul of the GR series, 40mm is nice I like it, but eventually i think it should be embraced as a small wideangle go-everywhere camera and for that I allready have 2 cams, surely the new one is worth to get, but if one allready has it predesessor then it might be unnecessary to switch, the previous cameras is still great pieces of equipment.
