Ricoh GR film series, Where are they made in?

Okay, I'm new to this forum. I just bought the GRDIII, and I love it. And now I want to go P.S film and I want the GR series. I've been looking and searching all over the place and the only place I can find the Ricoh GR series are on ebay. But I've notice some Ricoh GR series that are selling on ebay says it's "made in japan" and some says it's "made in tawian."

I'm just afraid of buying a bootleg version, I want the real stuff. Are Ricoh GR film series "made in japan," or are they "made in tawian?" Or both?

Hi becauseitsnice and welcome here! I believe GR cameras were made both in Japan and Taiwan. For example, GR21 is "Made in Japan". But I don't have any clue how much of the GR1 were made in Japan and Taiwan. Of course, "Made in Japan" looks nicer, but I would not bother much about it, especially if the price is right. The only thing that would care about is if the LCD display is fully working or if it was serviced. Large number of GR1 cameras are affected by the partially or fully non-working LCD, which needs to be replaced. And I'm afraid, the repair is quite expensive.

Just to add my 'tuppence' worth, my little bundle of GR1v joy says in the small print 'Ricoh Tokyo Japan' and in the very very fine print 'Made in Taiwan'.
It is certainly going great even 10 years on, so I doubt the Japan v's Taiwan is an issue to ponder for long!
