Ricoh CX series shutter lag

How does the Ricoh CX series stack up against other sub AU$300 (230 Euro ) cameras regarding shutter lag?
Anybody know the current winners in any brand? I have a user looking to buy something in this price range and shutter lag is important.
To qualify I think one shot lag leaving time to write the file is ok, I guess low light focus lock is important as this can affect the lag number too.
Comments, thoughts, experiences?

I've just tried my R10 out of interest, firing it across the room at the bookcase about eight feet away. With the flash charged before starting, from press to write is about 1.5 seconds. If I prefocus and take a half press on the button to lock it the press to write time is virtually oinstantaneous. I would expect CXs, being newer, to be quicker.

Hi Tim,

The CX shutter lag (if prefocused) is nearly non-existent. The CX AF in good lightning conditions is pretty fast. At least in range 28-50mm. I wish the GRD or GXR AF would be that fast. Major part of the CX AF speed lies in its BIS sensor. Of course, huge DoF of such tiny sensor plays a role too. When the shutter speed drops under 1/9 sec, the AF slows a bit down.

I don't have much experience with other brands, but I guess that other 10MP BIS CMOS equipped cameras could be similarly fast? This sensor is really fast and this is why I personally hope Sony will make 1/1.7 version of this BIS sensor and that Ricoh will adopt it in GRD/S10.

BTW, hi The Jannie and welcome here! ;)

Thanks for the feedback all, I seem to recall good experience with the "round the world R10". I suspect a combination of decent hardware and tight firmware code is needed to make them perform well. The end user has found that some cameras she has tried in the lower range are quite poor, seems the Ricoh's should be good.
