Ricoh celebrated 5 years of GRD

It's hard to believe that GRD is really 5 years old! Ricoh Japan celebrated this anniversary in a big style. Sadly for us non-Japanese, only in Japan. Dc.watch.impress.co.jp posted a detailed report from this event with many photos...

There are a lot of interesting details and photos in this report, but probably the most interesting thing (and very "suspicious"if you ask me) is the appearance of Mr. Goto Tetsuro from Nikon! Mr. Tetsuro is the Director of Laboratory Research and Development at Nikon! Could it be a sign of Ricoh-Nikon cooperation? Could it be that Nikon will be the first large camera manufacturer adopting GXR for their mirror-less cameras? Could it be that Ricoh will adopt Nikon mount? THere are many possible answers for this riddle. But it's definitely very unusual to see someone high rank from Nikon at Ricoh party! I guess it's not just a coincidence? ;)

Another detailed report from this event, with very nice gallery of A12 28mm full size photos (scroll down to the end of page) can be found here:

To be able to see the A12 images in their full size you need to open them in original page:

According to Thom Hogan, Nikon is developing thier own sensors now, so maybe Ricoh will go with Nikon sensors in the future (instead of Sony)?

We're beginning to sound like the dpreview forum now!

HAPPY Birthday GRD :ugeek:

Wish I could have been there. Maybe we should have a party of our own?

ricoh seems almost an afterthought in the communities of shooters around the world , especially in the usa ,considering how ricoh seems somewhat dismissive of the non japanese market... i could see nikon and ricoh doing something cooperatively, a grd module or a sensor would be great news

Thanks for sharing the links Pavel - looked like a great party - with loads of gadgets!

And the full size samples of the A12 28mm look abosultely great - cannot wait!!!

Cheers

The images and colours are so Ricoh. I just like them.

According to the author, the A12 28mm will be on sale on 29 Oct but Ricoh Japan has not released the price. He said that a reliable source told him that Ricoh would make available MFT modules for sale the coming year. (That's interesting cos does it mean the module will work with interchangable lenses? But that will defeat the original thinking behind the enclosed module. I'm interested to see Ricoh's solution then.)

Also, for the ISO test shots in the article, the author pointed out that the exposure combo of the ISO 200 shot was F2.5, 3s, meaning the setting was really dimly lit. He expected the high ISO performance would be better where the environment was a bit brighter.
