It does indeed has something going for it that way. However I like the original crop better. May I suggest to crop the red rose out and some of the bottom but keep the sky.
Maybe next time also try a shot from a bit lower standpoint so that the background is only the sky? However in this case the curve of the trees fits nicely with the rose.
A rainy/cloudy day is quite nice for macro's actually. Cloudy means no harsh shadows and smaller contrast in the subject. Rain could add some nice waterdrops (I sometimes bring a small spraycan with water to add the drops manually, sttt. don't tell any further ).
