question about grd 4

Hi,

i noticed that when you use the movable AE on the grd 4 does not work properly when you flip your camera vertical.


i move the AE point to the sky ( to keep it blue) and put ev at +1 ( to get the dark areas more open ).
when i do the same thing with the camera vertical, i get over exposed shots.

GXR has no problem with this.

anybody with this problem? or an explanation?

The focus & target metering moveable function is not one I use a lot so I've not noticed a horizontal - vertical issue but will try some shots when we have a bit more light to see what happens. I assume you are also using spot metering? If not the averaging with the other metering modes will be different with the camera in the vertical. What I tend to do with dark & bright scenes is to use medium dynamic range compensation with multi metering and then adjust the ev so that the bright areas look right.

most of the time, i use spot metering!
but the problem is the same in all 3 metering modes

this is not a major problem, but i like working that way.

but thx for sharing your manner, going to give it a try the next couple of days.

Just tried my GRD4. No problems with mine. Only fault i can think of is the, Move target setting. in the shooting

I think Ripbab may have hit the nail on the head. The default setting with move target setting is 'AF' - you can also use 'AE' and 'AE/AF' via the shooting menu. I've posted the page from the manual plus 2 pictures I took this morning with the GRD4 using 'AE/AF' with the target area the blue sky top right - there probably wasn't enough exposure difference in the good light between the sky and the sand to be a real test but I think it shows that the camera (mine at least) is working properly.

I've learnt from this so thanks for bringing it up 5four and thanks too to Ripbab for drawing my attention to the 3 move target settings.
