Polarizer on GR

Hi everyone,

I've had a search here but haven't found so I'm posting (please feel free to redirect me if you know where it's already been posted/answered) about using PL filters on the GR. Interested in getting the GH3 so I can use a polarizing filter with my GR but was hoping someone else here might post about their experiences with this setup and if so perhaps post some photos of examples.

Not sure if there are ny existing posts but I have the GR, converter and a PL filter. If there is any special setting your want to try, maybe I can try it out for you. Let me know.

just really curious on the Ricoh B&W setting reacts to a PL . depends on the brand too - what do you use? I have B+W PL filters so may get a step ring for one of my existing ones.
Do you have any shots to post ?

B & W 62E C-PL. It is nighttime at this part of the world now. Will shoot some tomorrow. Bear with me for the waiting.

FYI

Loss of light: generally from 1/200s to 1/80s with constant f2.8 and ISO

Just as what a PL is supposed to do, and I have guessed so, the PL's effect doesn't show where there is no glare/reflection to filter out (see the last two photos). As for the other images, I don't see any benefit in terms of contrast etc. with the PL mounted. But with the loss of light, combined with the built-in ND filter, one may use the PL to achieve slow shutter speed in daytime. Hope this helps.

Thanks Nevin.
This is a really handy post that shows that you don't need a polarizer for most shots.
Sure they have a time and place to be used, but at the expense of image quality.
I think it was Pavel who said you don't need to put anything else between the lens & subject.
Funny thing is I ordered a FOTGA Slim Fader Variable ND Filter The other day to do long exposure during daylight.
I'm sure these things are just two polarizing filters ripping light & quality from the image.
Also, not all polarizing filters are the same.
One from Polarid as apposed to FATGA would show differences.

Should white balance be adjusted for the use of a polarizing filter :?:

Phil, I oppose to putting anything in front of the lens unless out of necessity, say, mounting a converter. Some people put a filter to protect the lens but actually at the expense of IQ

As far as I have tried for some colour images, a pl filter doesn't oblige tweaks of WB.

actually I thought the PL in some cases here was just what was needed - especially on those window reflections. but as rule I don't have anything in front of my lenses unless it's an event where they can get damaged easily.
