I suppose I had it coming, I bought it blind. No camera shop I know stocks Ricoh around here. Then I was spoilt by the GXR which is an ace of a camera. I thought well the GXR is great the others are pretty well regarded and I chose the PX because I thought it would be easy for a novice to get good results.
The PX, given its dust resistant and waterproof qualities does put it into a somewhat 'specialist' niche, and I would guess there is a slight pay-back in image quality as a result of this? But I am no expert...

Perhaps you are right Wiener. Anyway, we gave it a week longer, I had the impression from the dealer that they seemed to be a problem with the LCD screen, but as we were not happy at all with the results from this camera I gave it back and swapped it for a Ixus 230HS. Far superior results for roughly the same price level. Much less fiddly in use and far less chance of fingers pressing things and then not knowing what mode or whatever and how to get back.

I am very happy with my GXR's so no big deal, I was just very disappointed in the PX. Of course I had high expectations. The GXR and from what I read on these forums the other Ricoh models all produce great images.

As an aside the Pentax Optio WS80 takes better images and again is far less prone to be fiddly in use.
