Today I went to the New Year's dive in Scheveningen.

I can't make a small selection so please take a look on my website ;)
There are two series:
Series 1: http://www.genster.nl/2011ev/2012/Nieuwjaarsduik/Canon/nieuwjaarsduik1.html (50 pictures) and
series 2: http://www.genster.nl/2011ev/2012/Nieuwjaarsduik/Nikon/nieuwjaarsduik2.html

Here is one preview ;)

Thanks for this post. My wife and I have really enjoyed looking at these pics. Some excellent action photos. :)

Why is the colour red so popular? Is this a tradition at this time of year?.
I notice that there are about five women to every man taking the ' cool dive '.

Lets hope the Euro does not follow this ' dive ' in the coming year -- otherwise we are in serious trouble.

Thanks for your replies Marcus, Chris and Davis, much appreciated!

The orange is our national color. Especially at sport events :D
The red color is typical for the sponsors logo :)

Some people have strange ideas like get frozen in the middle of the winter. However, there also are normal people thinking anorak, woolen hat, and gloves are more appropriate. :)

Cool sets (literally) Genster. What did you wear during photographing, btw? Did you wash your feet at least?

Peter

Thanks Peter.
I was waring my Nomad ski jacket and even so I was cold :D

Very nice shots Genster, I like them all... Let me say that one should be very brave to do this with the cold temperatures that I'm sure you have in this period... :D

Super photos, Genster, with some real gems amongst them! :D
I got cold just looking at them and had to reach for the Becherovka...

Thanks Andy.
Drinking a delicious Becherovka seems no punishment to me
I remember the very big bottle in front of the company. I think is was in Karlovy Vary (it's been a long time ago since I was there).

obviously all totally, completely, head full of barking dogs mad! But looks great fun. Wish I was brave enough to face the cold and the audience brave enough to face my moobs and belly.

nice action set my friend....I enjoyed them and took vicarious pleasure

Lovely pictures. I am not sure if it depicts bravery or lunacy to go swimming in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year!

Maybe a little bit of both, I think...

Yes indeed, very good shots, Genster. They include much fun !
Thanks for sharing with us.

All the best,
JONIE

Hi Genster, my response is rather late as I have been away for a few days and didn't have time to look through all the pics until late last night. The pictures are, as usual, simply outstanding! You have such tremendous skill in photographing people, no matter what they're doing. I didn't come across one bad shot out of the entire 80 pictures you posted. They all function so well together to tell a story of the event. The participants all look obviously like they're in much pain from the freezing cold  , but at the same time, like they're all having so much fun doing such a crazy thing - it really reminds one of being alive, I would imagine, which is probably the whole point of the event. Well done indeed!!

Thanks for your kind words Athena. I'm almost embarrassed :D
I'm really glad you like the pictures.
