New to this brand/system

macsareback - are you sure that you want to start into this system before you really understand the differences between the modules?

I'm sorry if that's a silly question as I'm coming into this conversation late, and I apologise upfront if this isn't the case.

I'm fairly sure, because I don't want to use a Canon or Nikon. I was looking for a smaller brand anyway. But I was wondering why didn't you upgrade to the 200? was there any difference? It's discontinued now anyway right?

I chose the 100 over the 200: I'm a deliberate shooter, so the slow RAW write time wasn't important to me and according to my research the AF and image quality was better on the GX100. The 200 lost the phase detection AF the 100 had and the sensor was increased to 12 megapixels on the same sized sensor. That meant more resolution, but worse pictures in low light. I think I would have liked the electronic level, but I was indifferent to the other refinements on the 200. In short, for my needs, I thought the more recent camera was a step down from the earlier version. Latest isn't necessarily greatest.

I'll be keeping my GX100 for it's flexibility and great DOF, but want a large sensor camera for the increased image quality and dynamic range. I'm happy enough with Ricoh and like to avoid more commercial players in most things (I also drive a Suzuki Aerio/Liana!), so I expect to buy the GXR at some point soon.
