RICOH GR IV Monochrome High-end Compact Digital Camera Development News

Equipped with a dedicated monochrome image sensor for the ultimate in black and white expression

TOKYO, October 20, 2025 — RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce the development of the RICOH GR IV Monochrome. It is the first model in the high-end GR compact digital camera series designed specifically for black and white photography.

The RICOH GR IV Monochrome, which is currently in development, is based on the latest model, the RICOH GR IV, which was released in September 2025. It is equipped with a new, dedicated monochrome image sensor and Image Control options specialized for black and white photography to deliver the expressiveness and depth unique to monochromatic images.

It has been nearly 30 years since the RICOH GR1 film camera, the first in the GR series, was released in 1996, and exactly 20 years on October 21 since the GR DIGITAL was launched in 2005.

Over the history of this series, our commitment to the essential camera values of high image quality, quick response and portability has always remained the same. Hinging on these basic concepts, the GR series has continued to evolve to meet the needs of the times. We hope you are excited about the RICOH GR IV Monochrome and this new foray into black and white territory.

This is tough for me. I just got the "normal" GR IV yesterday. Of course I am interested in the monochrome....
Well i waited out on the IV and also wanted it to first have most it's babycramps from first production sorted out.
As I do some film still, but has lost access to any darkroom etc, i am thinking heavily on this one as i could do what i like (b&w foto) without the costs of the analog world. If they don't skyrocket the price of the IVmono, i am most likely getting one.

I would be interested if the price was not prohibitive (not much higher than the current IV).

Since I was asked whether or not I would buy a GR IV monochrome. Clear answer. I would have gone for it if I havn‘t got a III X for a Couple of month. I have it because earlier Communication about a IV was so bad and unprofessionally and I couldn‘t wait any longer. I needed a Little cam for my motorcycle Trip. Now it is too Late for both IV and IV mono to get. Cheers Anselino.

Do not regret it. The GR3x is a great camera.

It is normal that Ricoh did not say anything in advance. They want to clear all stock first, before introducing a successor. Most brands do it this way.

IMHO this is why they will now introduce first the monochrom before they will offer a GR4x. Because they still have too many GR3x available ;)
