New GRDII firmware 2.04 released!

switch shooting mode

odklizec":2g24vrge said:
OK, I now understand the first addition related to My1/2 modes. There is a new menu item allowing to change the actual shooting mode without the need to jump out of the My Mode, selecting the new mode and resaving the My Mode. This new menu item is available only in My Mode:

i can't seem to grasp the concept/benefit of this. if i'm using my1 or my2 specific set up and i want to switch shooting mode back to aperture priority for whatever reason, why would i want to go into the menu, page 3, highlight "switch shooting mode", arrow right, highlight again and select aperture priority when i could just use the wheel on top to switch the mode? am i missing something here :?:
when i try it, i do get the "a" letter telling me it's in aperture, however the setting and viewfinder remain looking like the my1 or my2 setting. then once i take my snap or 2 in this mode and want to get back to the my1 setting do i have to turn the camera off to get back to my1 setting? spring has finally sprung in toronto and i must have spring fever as i don't "get it"

can someone enlighten me? cheers and thanks

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

I have my2 set-up for ISO 800, B&W, snap focus with the lcd turned off and aperture priority shooting. The new setting allows me to change that to manual exposure (or auto exposure!) without losing all the other settings: if I just change to A it'll go back to colour, ISO 100 and so on.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

hi colman, i'm starting to grasp the concept now thanks to your response. doesn't seem like a feature i'd use (especially having to dig so deep for it in the menu) to modify my my1 or my2 settings but will give it a try next time i'm out shooting. cheers.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

That is exactly I setup my2 too. I use my2 in very low light.
I found multi AF is good when there is light enough. In low light the focus is double or triple slower.
Snap or MF come to rescue. It is really fun to shoot in dim light again.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

:D Hi
My GR2 does not read update firmware V2.01 files.
I've tried Sandisk & Lexar 2GB cards to no avail on my iMAC.
I put the two files into the root directory but nothing happens.
Any suggestions for a Newbie and this is my first submittal.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

Hi,

I'm far from an expert because I only got my GRDII on Friday but mine accepted the update first time. Because I had only just bought the camera, my update was done immediately after formatting the card in the camera. That might be worth trying...

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

:D Hi You All,
I figured out my technical problem and I got V2.01 loaded correctly.
Thanks for your help.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

Is there a way to tell if we already have the firmware on our GRD II's? Somewhere in the menu?

New GRDII firmware 2.02 to be released!

Hey !

Now the version 2.02 is coming !

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/download/

Modified the following phenomenon. After taking a picture with a long exposure time (1 second or slower) in the M mode (manual exposure mode), and then even if you take a picture in the Auto shooting mode, the image processing for the long exposure time will be performed.

Did someone noticed this phenomenon ?

It is sure now we will have to wait for the firmware 3.0 or more to get what Pavel has reported as wishes...

;)

I never noticed this but then I never use Auto mode ;).
Installed the update anyway to see if there are any other "hidden" improvements.

Hope for a more substantial update in the near future though to add new features and finally disable the NR or at least add a GRD I b&w mode without any NR and higher contrast.

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.03 to be released!

The 2.03 is arrived...

Modified the following phenomenon. A camera will not recognize the recommended flash from Sigma below.
EF-530 DG ST (SA-STTL)
EF-530 DG SUPER (SA-STTL)
EF-500 DG ST (SA-STTL)
EF-500 DG SUPER (SA-STTL)

See here:

Who want to test ?
Cristian, will you check for "hidden" improvement ? ;)

Cheers,

Stephane

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

Heh..I'm still running my GRDII on FW2.0 and we have another minor version here ;) I'm planning to compare all these new FWs in respect of JPEG NR. Some people says the NR is now less aggressive (since 2.0). But my initial tests says it's more or less the same. I'm sure that if there would be any change in NR, we would read an official statement about it. JPEG NR is the most criticized GRDII problem (well, right after useless BKT range) so I would be surprised if they would do something in NR without an official announcement.

Hehe ;)

I installed version 2.02 but there is no further improvement since 2.0 so will wait for now for a bigger release.

Hope Ricoh releases a version 3.0 with a proper NR off function and something to stop the display from freezing in natural light, strange enough it does not do this in low light or if there is no direct natural light in the scene :? .

Re: New GRDII firmware 2.0 to be released!

well I have tried four times to upload the software _ i have taken evryhting off the sd disk having been reformatted and plonked the two update files on it - they are there if I put the card into the card reader - and bingo - nothing - I am still running Version 1.12

This seems very curious and I am getting v frustrated - i am running on a mac ibook - with latest software

HELP - ideas please

Hello fellow GRDII and Macuser.

I too had the same problem, drove me crazy wanting the new firmware.

It seems there was a little something lost in the translation of the instructions.

Heres the fix I came up with. Open the disk image, on the desktop, DELETE any and all folders from with in the image. Now drop the 2 downloaded updater files into the bare disk image, eject however you wish via trash or not does not matter. Now you have the updater files in a way the camera can read them, do the key combos to install software on camera and all is well.

Enjoy,
