New GRD IV owner, compared to the I, III and Leica D-Lux 5

Hi all,

I'm a new proud Ricoh GRD IV owner and although I have indeed been lurking  for a while here, I thought I'd introduce myself.

Due to a set of circumstances, I have had versions I, III and IV of the GRD for over 3 weeks and did a little comparison to establish (for myself) whether there was a certain kind of magic the original GR Digital had which was not present in the other versions... My observations are on my website if you are interested :)

I will post some of my latest shots here once I've uploaded them onto Flickr.

:)

An interesting comparison - thanks for posting the link....and Welcome! of course.

Yes, thank you for your efforts, an interesting comparison.

I think you may have a small error on the page.

The text--
"Ricoh’s GR Digital, II, IV, Leica D-Lux 5 @28mm"

should read III not II ?

As far as sharpness goes I do tend to think the III won out here BUT I am wondering with the GRD range if there is not a bit of variance in samples between the same model.
I was just PMing Richard and mentioned that my GRD II seems softer and less detailed than other images from GRD 2s that I've seen.
A recent poster put up an exquisite image from the GRD I so I am left wondering.

Thank you for the welcome and for the error notice thelps on my blog which I have now edited.

I agree with you too re variance in samples and have found this to be the case multiple times with my cameras. I have to say though that what I am seeing with the GRD IV is that it is the sharpest of the bunch however the III is indeed very much next to it...
