Neck Straps?

Hi all,
I'm strongly considering buying a neck strap for my GR1, because I'm getting sick of hand straps and pockets don't work too well (condensation on the vf, and a tight fit). Anyways, I know ricoh sells the GS1 strap for the GRD, how is it? Does any one have experience with it? Also where did you buy it?

My only kinda nitpick is that I kinda wish it didn't proclaim 'Ricoh GRDigital' on the part around your neck. Are there other unbranded or more subtly branded neckstraps that you would recommend? Also what do you use and why?

Thanks so much ricohforum ^^

With all respect to Ricoh, the GS1 strap is very poor quality. I bought one, but after a while, I changed it for Artisan&Artist strap. I only used GS1 strap endings, because the AA strap I bought has not been intended for cameras like GRD (with small eyelets). But AA now makes straps that are usable directly without the need of any modification. They are not as sturdy as the one I'm using, but they are still much better (softer) than the GS1.

Yeah I was looking around the AA site but I guess I missed these, AA stuff is always so wow expensive though, as sweet as it looks. Do you know what material they are made out of ? I can't read Japanese , so I guess I should also figure out whether they'd be able to ship to canada and how much that would be. Although to be honest, I still have my eyes open because of the price :'(

Thanks as always odklizec!

Yes, the AA straps are not cheap but their quality is superb! And of course, there is a big WOW factor ;) It really changes your camera appearance from "yet another black compact" to something special.

I guess the AA strap I'm using now is made from cotton. Other AA straps are made from leather. Unfortunately, the AA Worldwide sells only a small number of AA straps. Much more straps can be found in AA Japan shop.

I bought mine on ebay, but it was a lucky buy. It cost me around $50 and I did not find another one for sale since the first one. I would gladly buy another one even for that price, because it's really great.

I can see what you mean about the WOW factor, they certainly do look really high quality. But maybe my tastes are weird, but I'm looking for something that doesn't scream camera strap - I just came up with the thought that maybe I could buy a soft casual tie with a cool pattern and just lop off the ends and find a way to attach a string ...? I dunno, maybe food for thought, and maybe I'm just imagining the logistics and how it would look all wrong :)

You may want to try http://www.leicaboutique.com (Montreal, Canada), as they sell Artisan&Artist.

I'll probably drop by the store when I get back, as I find the GS-1 strap a little too short for the way I wear it (across the body).

I don't know if they sell outside of North America, but they do say:

"Sorry, Online ordering is available only for residents of Canada and the United States. Live elsewhere? Please send us an email. We look forward to serving you. Join our email from anywhere on Earth to receive our newsletter, bulletins and promotions."

So a couple of days ago, I walked into Camtec Photo here in Montreal (which is leicaboutique on the Web) and bought an AA acam104 neckstrap. They had a choice of black, red and brown and I chose the inconspicuous black - I don't want to make my camera too attractive to thieves.

It was very easy to put it on and I'm very happy with it. It's very comfortable and, with the required GS-1 extensions, longer than the original GS-1.

The cost was reasonable @ $60cdn - about £32. :)
