I never figured out what people call it, but it is beautiful to me ...

It certainly is beautiful, my first reaction was Orchid but I know thats not right - got me stumped!

Have no idea too. And yes, very beautiful flowers and color contrast. The red on the green pops out in the way the flower wants to, Im sure ;-)

Having taken a look at a number of "Montbretias" on Google Images, I am sure that you have it "just right". Thank you!

It has never returned in subsequent Summers, but every time that I walk by the front-yard of the house by which it grew, I think of it - like a old love not forgotten ...
