My first post with new M Mount & Canon FD 50 mm

Hi all . It's been a while since I've been active on here (apart from in the competition) - I've become quite involved in other things lately, so have had little time to keep up with things on here. I recently managed to purchase the M Mount for a bargain from Paxton's on eBay. I then purchased (also on the Bay) an M to Canon FD adapter from China, so I could use Marcus's lenses he scored at the local Op-Shops for bargain prices (about $5 each). Below, is one of the pics I took on the first night I tried out the new Mount with a Canon FD 50 mm lens. I was very impressed! The pic is straight out of the camera. Resizing has caused the pic to lose some of its sharpness when enlarged, but you can still see how lovely the result is anyway . I have much to learn about the new lenses now available to me, and it will be quite some time before I can figure it all out properly :mrgreen: .

Good to hear from you again and interesting to see the path you are following with the 'M' mount and cheaply acquired lenses. I keep looking at the GXR and cannot decide whether I would rather follow the 'A' module route or go straight to the 'M' mount. In my thinking I have concluded that zoom lenses and I do not get on so that limits the route a bit...price is the other major consideration and I can't really justify spending loads on yet another hobby (boats & sports cars.......) and I also love the portability of the GRD5...so in my confusion I'm doing nothing other than watching eBay. Anyway, congratulations on scoring the module and adapter at a good price and congratulation too on your first post with the new kit - somehow I feel that the M mount may yield the most fun and satisfaction so will follow developments with interest.

Congratulations on your purchase. Good case with modulo M, so 'powerful' and versatile.
With a 50/55mm bright, it's can be a good complement to replace a 'modulo' télé unfortunately always absent in Ricoh.
This is a really complete set with the modulo 33mm and the modulo 19mm! From my opinion,90% of the needs of a photographer are contented.

Is the lens the F1.8 50mm FD? My dealer has one for £15...this I could get away with (still need to buy the GXR & M mount & adapter). Are you using the EVF with the GXR? Andy/Wiener was telling me that without the EVF he finds focusing with the M mount quite difficult (but then we both need glasses and refuse to wear them out and about).

I hope that you are having as much fun with your M-mount + 50mm prime as I am! In my case (with the Minolta MD) I have a 'novel' 75mm focal length combined with a wide maximum aperture and very sharp images. And all for 'free' (if one ignores the cost of the M-mount!)
Seems a good way to go...I would also add that buying outside the Ricoh lens range also gives a little freedom from the dictates of Ricoh/Pentax. One does not have to wait patiently for the research and development to come up with a 75mm lens because you can just to out and buy one on the cheap. This works best on the 'tele' end of life though; at the 'wide' end, one has to pay more for less...but if you have access to good cheap ones this argument is less relevant.

Hi Athena,
Well done on the M module purchase.
The Canon 50mm that you have is an absolute bargain.
I can recall in film days that, that particular lens was considered one of the best optically.
My brother still uses one on his FD gear.
How well it works on the Module I'll leave to your judgement but the example you have here shows it can do great results.
I'd probably PP it some more but the lens can resolve good detail.

Looking forward to seeing some more!
