...colour or b&w? I messed about with both a little between CS5 and SilkyPix but very much work in progress. To be honest, the GRD3 images are not nearly as pliable as those from the A12 units, but that is what one would expect! So the amount of 'tweak' has been (well attempted to be) restrained.

Andy, given the choices, I'd say color. It just has more life to it.
Maybe the 3rd choice would be a better B&W version. You could get more out of it.

Andy, I'm studying this again. It seems to be a compression of tones in the B&W that is not letting the eye travel. Do you have Nik Silver Effex? Do you use LR?
Just wondering cause this is under my skin already....

In the color image there´s a wonderful warm / cold (and red / blue) contrast between the bilboard and the sky. This contrast is completely gone in the b&w version. The b&w version transports some "dark mood" but just doesn´t have the "snap" of the color version.

wok

P.S.: I would crop away everything below the bilboard in both pictures

Andy the BW conversion asks for playing with the RGB channel mixer. As the reds are dominant on the poster, push down the blues and greens and pull up the reds to get better overall contrast of it.

like the ominous cloud in B&W connection with spooky looking Spidey .... also cables look more like webs - and the guy hanging from them 'could' be seen to be him ;)

Be well ... Kort .

Hi Streetshooter,
I do not have Nik Silver Effex but see plenty of good b&w on here processed using it which makes me wonder about giving it a try...
I have different software in different locations which sounds a bit daft but that is the way my life has evolved of late...LR3 and CS5 are the ones currently at my elbow and which I am still learning (plus SilkyPix which I now know quite well) so...
Thanks for your thoughts and feedback!

Hi wok,
still running several options around in my head...as always it is a compromise between this and that...but at the end of the day what makes a picture special (or not) is a very personal thing...
That is what I appreciate about this forum though; that I come to realise the range of possibilities which makes for a 'great' image in other peoples eyes...as Peter (Blow-in) said recently, what one personally thinks is great may be ignored (and I am not complaining either!) and some fairly average scene gets a lot of praise and attention... :)
All great for motivation and stimulous!

Thanks for the suggestion Peter.
I will have a go sometime soon!

Kohrt,
this was the sort of effect I was trying to acheive in this first attempt. Something supernatural and not realistic in an 'evening stroll along the Danube' kind of way...The cables and the man on the rope have light halos which I found interesting. The tower is almost lost in the sky, but where the light shines through the 'tears' it adds drama...(or so I thought! )
But as I said, work in progress! This image is probably worth more time... ;) Thanks everybody of your impressions...very much appreciated!

Andy,
Your title made me look twice at both the color and B&W versions. What I saw in the B&W was what appears to be a white-hooded figure w/coal black "eyes" lurking beneath the billboard of Spider-Man overhead. Was this intentional? Is the figure the "Master" and Spider-Man the "Servant"?

To be honest, I had not thought of that variation! Just thought that the colossal spider-man image with the dwarfed human hanging from his own tiny piece of web made for a nice irony/contrast...and of course emphasis the scale of the tower. This is actually an ariel rope-way for human 'fun' though I have yet to try it out... ;)

...OK a b&w version with less black and the imagined title better described...should try a colour one too though! Still looks a wee bit dark now that I have uploaded... :?
It is also quite 'soft' but that is probably just the reality of the small sensor on the GRDIII and the processing...
