Marina: East Coast of Australia

New Member
I've only had the Ricoh GR for a short time and most photos to this point have been B/W, but decided to visit my local Marina today to do some colour shots just for a change.
Camera seems to perform just fine with Firmware Ver 3.00 without any issues. Out of interest, all my customs settings were retained after the upgrade which was nice as I expected these would be lost.
Shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom 4.

More shots can be seen at http://grpics.weebly.com/ if interested.

regards,

Steve.

Ooh, I could really use a splash of this warm blue at this end of the world...freezing in Vienna today!

Beautiful marina. What color mode are you using on the GR, and have you done PP on the colors? How do you feel about the GR color rendition?

Typical East Coast of Australia marina with fishing boats both commercial and amateur.

Sun is out today, a bit of cloud around, but calm and fine and quite warm.

Water is likely to be just as blue down on our harbour as well (grin)

Weiner. Sorry to torture you poor Northern Hemisphere residents with a photo of our summer. My daughter has a boyfriend in Helsinki where its -17deg. I cant ever imagine what that might be like.
Your summer is on its way though :D .

Quester, I only shoot RAW and have never tried the JPG colour modes in the GR. So yes, my RAW shots that look quite plain OOC, have been post-processed in Lightroom 4.
The post-processing involves;
Neutral Density filter on the sky and dropped back 2/3 stop
Shadows slider to +50 to improve foreground
Clarity to +20
Vibrance to +20
Sharpening to +50
Noise Reduction to +20

Thats it, no other adjustments and results in an image close to how I remember it. Its some of the very first colour images I've done with the GR (previous ones mainly B/W) and I'm very impressed by its colour accuracy.
I didnt need to adjust the hue of the sky or grass/plants as they looked spot-on. The colours seem much nicer than I get from my Canon 7D.

The more I use the GR the more I realise it may be only camera I'll ever need.

Hi Baddog,
A good perspective. I like the addition of a human element.

Here's a local marina with some more blue for Andy.
Two frame stitch. No other PP.

Some expensive hardware there. Like all Marinas.

As a sailor I appreciate these marina shots - not just of the beauty of the shots above but also for the technical side of the marinas. Steve's marina has what we call 'box piles' which are quite unusual in the UK and allow access to the boat via the stern (if moored stern-to) only. Tim's marina is a bit more up market with individual 'finger pontoons' although they don't feel that good if you jump off your boat anywhere near the end. What is probably common the world over is that the more expensive the boat (and marina) the more time it spends tied-up!

Richard you are definitely our resident expert in anything boating. :)
My Dad used to take us fishing in a "topper" it was transported upside down on the roof of the car with caravan in tow. :D

I apologise for my tilted horizon, didn't really notice it till now.
