PS2, didn't domuch to the raw, mostly worked in jpg mode.
layered the sky and played with that, not as happy as could be where the sky and buildings join, but am getting better

Well- ran the picture through silkypix free version and produced 3 different exposures in black and white.
Then using trial version of Dynamic photo HDR made a HDR pic. This I straightened in ShiftN. Final touch was sepia tone
with Photofiltre then resize with Fastone. Looks like Parliament building on Budget day! I actually would have liked to do something more with the
gull and the plane, but at least the plane is more visible.

Sorry, I cheated. I processed the .jpg - Couldn't process the .dng (no means to) so I used Paintshop Pro (I hardly am), but this is my vision of the scene. Details preserved and enhanced, not really etched but not softened either. Vibrant colors, muddy waters, blue skies, clouds still present (and the airplane's still there). :) and it's nice & contrasty. It POPS. Wish I could've (or knew how to correct the perspective/skew like rui, but live & learn, I guess that's for another day). Didn't crop out the crane as I liked the bit of color, or crop the bottom of frame though I like the widescreen perspective if I'd done so, which naturally would bring the building more upfront in the image and refocus the eye to it. So folks, you may or may not dig this, but that's how I see it...

Regards, Rob

Rob,

It looks like you got it.....
The eye travel is great with the sky....others missed that...the light creates a "V" and leads the eye to the building...
the airplane creates a perfect irritant completing the round eye travel....bravo...good vision...

First I converted from dng to ppm with dcraw, two versions, one dark (with all highlights preserved), and one light with all shadows preserved. I have to do this because Gimp, which I use for pp, only handle 8-bit values.
Then I combined the two pictures in Gimp with a manually edited layer mask, inspired by http://www.dpreview.com/news/0903/09031801apical.asp.
Then I did a perspective adjustment, a crop, and a levels adjustment.
Finally a resize, and sharpening. For sharpening I constructed a layer mask with the edge detection and threshold tools, so I could use a high level of sharpening without increasing the noise.
I'm sorry if the result turned out rather boring. I sort of snapped into rescue-mode, and lost all my creativity.

My idea was to emphasize BIg Ben and to get rid of the dirty brown water.

Processed with Adobe Camera Raw 4.5 and Photoshop Elements 7, used desaturation of sky and water, vertical and horizental perspective correction.
Cheers, Markus

Hi all, my small contribution with lightroom & photoshop.
My first intention was to use a lomo effect but it does not work with this picture. £I do not find a lomo angle or composition.

so I decide to move to a duotone lod school effect and have a dramatic light in the picture like big ben was under an heavy & black sky. the begining of a big storm.
the main steps (i am not an expert, so be comprehensive)

  • Croping image in order to avoid noise on the right of big ben.
Use 2 linear mask one to have more density in the sky an one to dynamize the water
A lot of small mask to under expose the 2 vans on the bridge (+2) and to over expose big ben and the tower (-3 to -5), no too much as there is some noise.
Edit picture in photoshop in order to :
add some scratch and durt in the picture
convert is in duo tone (Black and pantone DS306-5)
Gaussian blur and desatuare a litte to have more dynamic in the overall picture.

Thats all folks !!!!
