Lens correction and switching to snap focus from auto

Hi There,

I've been using this camera on the streets for four weeks but have a couple of questions I can't seem to find definitive answers to.

1. Lens correction in Lightroom
Is there a profile for this camera that can be used in Lightroom 5?

2. Switching between normal focus and snap focus
I have snap focus set on the Fn1 button which works great but if I take a shot using auto focus then switch back to snap, I have to:
- Choose a distance other than the one previously selected
- Then go back and choose the distance I was previously using
- If I select the distance I was previously using first, the camera refuses to set it - hence having to set a different distance first

Questions:
- Is there a way to set the camera so that when you hit Fn1 it turns snap focus on and uses the previously set distance all at once?
- Or if not, how do you stop from having to set a different distance first - does this seem crazy?
- Also, is there a way to set a custom snap distance?

3. Forcing the GR to favour higher shutter speeds
- One thing I've noticed is that the camera tends to favour low shutter speeds over high ISO
- In many situations, I've found this results in an unusable blurry shot instead of a usable grainy one (anyone tried this yet: http://www.adobe.com/au/video/featu...m_s_au_s_products_s_photoshop_s_features.html)

Is there a way to get the camera to use high ISO first (say 1600 or 3200) before lowering the shutter speed?
I'm using Aperture Priority mode to control the depth of field/focus and have been using ISO1600 during the day to force higher shutter speeds in all situations - but this seems a bit crazy to me.

Hope that all makes sense - any tips or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi
it's a few nice programs for camera profiles.
_dngprofileeditor (Adobe) free
_Adobe lensprofile creator (adobe) free
_Adobe lens profile downloader (Adobe) free
good works...

For number 2, I think one workaround is to save your preferred snap distance as one of the mode setting, so you can flick to it on the dial.

Re: Lens correction

the question i was going to ask sciascia as i try to find the answer before purchase.

on the x100s, when the camera makes a jpeg it corrects the 'lens distortion'. does the GR do the same when making a jpeg?

Hey sciascia.

Regarding the snap distance thing. I don't see the same problem, unless I'm missing something.

In my1 (custom mode) I have fn1 set to snapfocusdistance (although you could just hold up macro button and turn the front dial to select also), fn2 is set to AF/Snap. I can switch between AF and Snap and the snap distance remains at whatever I have it set to, regardless of what I autofocus on. Maybe I'm sort of saying the same thing as blue_quartz.

p.s. First post for me :)

Thanks Guys,

@Joyseeker: I shoot raw (and turn off JPEG) so I'm not sure sorry.

@Stovi: The guys on the dpreview forums answered this for me.

It turns out then when you switch back to snap from auto, the distance gets set correctly but the distance indicator doesn't update. This was confusing and why I thought the camera was not set to the correct snap distance.

But if you half press the shutter or take a shot, then the distance indicator updates - as far as I can tell the distance is correct, it's just that the camera just doesn't indicate the correct distance until you press the shutter.

on the interchangeable lens cameras,(ex:ricoh GXR),same lens unit need same particular lens correction, and everybody can dowload or create a specific lens correction with adobe utility that y say up the post.
on all the "fixed lens" cameras,(ex ricoh GR,Fuji X100 etc)the profile lens correction is inclued on the camera !
regards

Answering your question #3 is not too difficult.

To force the GR to favour higher shutter speeds, go to SETUP MENU, browse to select ISO AUTO-HIGH SETTINGS.

Now, you choose the maximum ISO you want to reach before the shutter speeds decreases (example 3200).
And you set the minimum shutter speed you want to keep by increasing the ISO (example 1/125).

Hey sciascia, ah yes that threw me for a while too. However the distance is still written top right (unless that's a configurable option I have enabled).
