To all our forum members in Japan, staff at Ricoh and everyone else over there we are thinking of you and praying for you at this difficult time.
I know we will be unanimous in our concerns and best wishes.
It's a real disaster. First New Zealand now Japan. My thoughts are with all of those affected by these events. I hope none of the forum members, their relatives and friends were affected by this disaster.
I got a news from my Ricoh contact that all Ricoh employees and their families are OK. Two Japan factories suffered some damages form the earthquake, but luckily not by the tsunami. Of course, all material damages are unimportant. What counts are people's lives.
I thought about starting a RicohForum fund to collect some money for the earthquake relief. But I discussed the matter with my Ricoh contact and he suggested to donate directly to some established organizations. It would make the things much easier and faster, not to mention PayPal would cut their fee from all donations made through the RicohForum donation system.
So guys, if you would like to help, please use these reliable and secure ways to help the Japanese people affected by the ongoing disaster. Thank you in advance!
I too offer all my sympathy and hope for everyone who has been touched in some way by these events; as I watched the 'impossible' images unfold last week my heart sank at such terrible peril that nature can so suddenly put very 'ordinary' people into.
That each day, the problems worsen and the sorrows deepen is almost too much to bear.
My thoughts are with every one of you there...
Andy
I live in UK but Japan is my second home and I am shocked and extremely saddened by this terrible disater and the chain of events that is unfolding. I am just praying that this flow of terrible news will stop....
There is a very good initiative on Flickr - auctioning prints of photos and having the highest bidder donate the amount to a charity... I have a print on auction here:
I wish earnestly that the situation improves quickly. TEPCO were once one of my main clients and I know that my friends will be doing their upmost to bring things under control. Even then, the residents of Japan have been through the most harrowing experience imaginable and they have done so with characteristic courage and self discipline.
Unfortunately with the amount of radioactivity around the situation is unlikely to improve quickly. The TEPCO workers in the high radiation areas are sacrificing themselves for a greater good and are true heroes in my view.
