Its All Martin's Fault

And the fact that Henrys is now carrying Ricoh. But after seeing Martin's nightlapse, http://ricohforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=8659 , I had no choice but was FORCED to order a GXR/A16 . Thanks Martin! :D

Good luck with it!

BTW, I'm just giving my good old Kodak P880 away (to my nephew), as after getting used to GXR with A16, there is no way back ... Hmmm, I wish Ricoh would realize how many of their cameras were sold thanks to some of my timelapses ;) And who knows, perhaps my experiments with the external timer (permitting 1.5 - 2.5 intervals) might have helped convincing Ricoh to go to the 2-second basic interval with the GXR body ...

Congratulations on the acquisition Bert. As always I'll be keen to see any of your Macro's that you often seem to specialize in.
I have one plan for my new GRD IV, its always good to have an excuse to buy a certain camera but I'd buy it anyway!!

BTW, I don't want to overemphasize the A16 unit for time-lapse purposes ... also the S10 unit performs great. A friend of mine had his new GXR with S10 in January/February in Antarctica (http://polar.sci.muni.cz/en/), taking some ~ 40 timelapses with it there (all daytime ones). I have seen some of those - they are just great! After he publishes some of these somewhere, I'll post a link here to those. So I would recommend A16 namely to those who consider low-light timelapsing, and S10 for daytime ones. In any case, the GXR body with whichever of these units is a big improvement over the GX100 (namely for timelapsing).

Cheers, Martin

Re: Its All Martin's Fault ... one more celestial timelapse

Bert, and others,

over the weekend I tried another nocturnal timelapse (already on my website), this time at ISO 1600 and 8 second exposure, to avoid DFS which starts from 10 seconds on. Though I'm still not quite happy with the result (I was expecting a bit more), it shows nicely the camera and A16 unit low-light capability. I'll keep experimenting, as time, weather, and Moon permit ;) Unfortunately, it is difficult here, in Central Europe, to find places with real dark skies, without all the light pollution ...
