Hi everyone. I'm from Derbyshire England. Just retired. I used to play with a Canon AE1 some 35 yrs ago. Nothing really serious, just the usual family photos and holiday snaps. I did convert a small room that we had at the time into a dark room and successfully (eventually) develop my own films and printed them using a Durst enlarger.
I recently acquired, off freecycle, a box containing a Ricoh XR-X camera with a Ricoh 1.4 28~100mm Rikenon P zoom lens (reason for joining this forum), that look like new, batteries still working. LED readout works and so does the buttons as far as I can tell. I've downloaded an instruction manual and obtained some film so that I can try it out in a day or two.
Also in the box was a Ricoh Rikenon lense 1:2 50mm which puzzles me in that it has a box built around the lenses, that says Ricoh AF. A flash unit I assume.
There's a Metz 32CT3 flash gun as well, but I read somewhere on the net that you have to fire it at least every three months to keep the electronics OK. (so it may be not working properly).
2 more cameras in the box, (bodies only), a Pentax MX, looks well used and a Pentax KX. Both Appear to fire the shutter OK but the KX speed setting dial doesn't feel right as you turn it. no positive clicks.
There were four more lenses in the box. A Super-Danubia 1:2.8 f=2.8mm multicoated. I'm guessing it was used with the pentax's.
A Soligor compact semi-fish-eye 0.42X macro which is screw on. I assume you attach it onto the camera lenses.
A Sigma 70-210mm 1:4.5 zoom.
Last a 1:4.5 80-200m zoom. It has written on it MC AUTO-BEROFLEX, a pi symbol then 52.
There's also another screw on unit that says Komura Lens, Telemore95 7.k.m.c For F. I'm assuming it's for getting greater magnification when used with a normal camera lenses.
Quite a good set of equipment for nothing I thought, so I've to try and get into some proper photography, not just snaps like it was in the past.
I would think the 2 Pentax's will end up on ebay as spares or repair, may test the MX and keep it as a spare incase the Ricoh delopes problems.

Early Auto Focus for a SLR

Thanks for that info. I'm confused as to how that works as it has a dial for setting the distance, or does that rotate automatically and any idea how good it is. I can't find anything on google for it as yet, no manual.

Welcome pecb, its good to see someone making use of the old film cameras.
If you get some scans done and can upload them, Hope to see some results sometime.

There isn't much on the net about this AF lens. It may fit some of your cameras with some batters fitted.

Would like to hear if it works & how well too.

Tried to fit the AF unit to the Ricoh XR-X but the body of the camera clashes with the unit, so I can't try it on that camera.
It will fit the two pentaxs that I got that came in the box but I'll have to use up a roll of film to try it out, plus I'm not sure if the pentaxs work. Need some batteries for them, issue with the KX re speed shutter dial. On both, the shutter appears to work but the MX is noisier. I get the idea to have serviced/repaired is expensive.
I can't see a way of detaching the lens from the AF unit without breaking it. Shame as I would have liked to try it on the Ricoh.
